Grease vs CLP

I use grease, mostly due to it staying in place and having a high resistance to water.

I've used oil and grease as a temporary weather protectant on metal, oil washes away very quickly however grease remains in place much longer. It was not a scientific test, but occasionally I have to store stuff outside that has machined areas that need to be protected from the elements. Once I tried using mobil 1 engine oil, rust started before the weeks end. The machined pieces that I greased only needed to have the grease wiped away before installation and they had been sitting outside for a couple weeks. I use mobil XHP 462 moly, which is a premium lithium complex grease. Grease "drys" out very quickly when exposed to fine dust and requires more attention in that kind of environment.

Yeah it's not a bad thread actually

Correction: BreakFree is available to civilians I'm sorry (don't pm me I beg you)

Quick everyone, lets get those PMs on their way.
I use CLP on the T/G and white lithium everywhere else, much to the wifes horror.
I prefer the white stuff cos Im blind as a bat and can see where I already put it.
And of course the price, not as cheap as free CLP but close.

In my early years in the Army, I remember listening to 2 WOs talking about CLP and one clearly stated that he would ''NEVER EVER put that crap on his own gun''. Now those are his exact words.

Later down the road, we don't use our weapons so much so I get my licence and buy guns and I find myself asking a similar question as for gun cleaning : Should I use CLP on my personnal firearms ?? And if yes, is there any precaution I should use with it.

Funny how I've been cleaning a lot of weapons in almost 11 yrs, but when it comes to personnal firearms paid by yourself and not issued by the system, you care a bit more about that :p

So, Glock 17, Remington700 and 870 what are your toughts/tricks on cleaning those and what do you use ?

They warned us in BMQ not to fap after cleaning our weapons because CLP is carcenogenic and the last thing they want to see is CF98s filled out for #### cancer.

That being said, I use G96 (essentially the same thing as CLP) on my personal firearms just because it smells better.

like one member here said if the gun isnt complaining then dont worry. but i would like an opinion (sorry OP dont mean to high jack) what about dry lube spray? ive been using it on my ARs but just started on the 305, does the 305 need a more "liquid" type of lubricator?

Mine gets the cheapest grease I could find at Cambodian Tire. It's not Tactical grease, so I imagine my 305 will lock up half way through the first wave of zombies. But I'll risk it.

any type of grease? I am noob to this :) I used froglube for all my items, but read that m14 is required to use grease.

I use M1 garland era lubriplate. Hard to beat it. It stays put for years and continues to work. Using oil, you have to re-oil it a bunch. Kind of a pita.

The USGI grease was originally developed for the Garand because it stayed in place and kept the rifle functioning in wet conditions. Folks who apply too much oil to the rifle will learn to cut back and use grease when they get a face-full of hot oil at the range. When I first started shooting the FNC1 in basic training many moons ago I remember a Sgt going along the firing line with one of those small Coke bottles full of oil that he offered to pour into the action. I declined.

If you apply grease (even wheel bearing grease works) to the required lube points on the Garand or M14 type it will work like a charm and avoid excessive wear on the moving surfaces.
