Listened to Q on CBC today.

There was a great interview with writer Lily Raff McCaulou

She says that it's time for non-hunters to face facts: Bambi's anti-hunting propaganda was wrong, and hunting isn't all about the thrill of the kill.

She held the typical non-hunter's very negative views about hunting, until she moved to Oregon and decided to pick up a gun for the first time and learn to kill her own dinner. Now, she argues in a new book, Call of the Mild, that those who care about animals and the environment should let go of their stereotypes about hunting and support hunters as the great conservationists they are.

Maybe the producers of the show thought that it was an interesting perspective to present; that not all hunters are a bunch of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, road-sign shooting ,drinking driving simple minded rednecks.

I was very surprised when this came on the radio today! The first thing I hurd was the word firearm, and I thought; here we go again! But it was good. I wish people who are against poor treatment of animals would face facts.

She wasn't to gun-hole about what Ted Nugent and the NRA stood for, those were her words, which I suspect was her way of taking a jab at most of America's gun owners with support from mother cbc.

gun-hole?

Anyway, a nut bar poacher like Ted Nugent doesn't represent anyone I know in the hunting community.

...if Canadians had even a fraction of the gun lobby of that of the U.S. us Canadians firearms owners would not be treated like criminals and the ill fated registry would have never been spawned. The Nuge is a radical, no different than the anti radicals. There is a time and place for his kind...

Very strange for the CBC to have anything to do with pro firearms or hunting. Maybe the CBC's worried about their jobs.
Maybe after just one pro-hunting/firearms story they will think they are being open minded about hunting and firearms related activities.
We will only see what the next story brings.
But, I wont be holding my breath.
Tight Groups,

I heard this interview last night, thought the lady made her point and came across well. I often listen to CBC radio when I'm out working in the field and I've yet to hear them portray hunting in a negative way. I remember hearing a little radio documentary last fall where a city girl with no experience and some bias against hunting accompanied a guy on a deer hunt; as I recall she came away with more understanding of the sport and the segment was quite positive towards hunting overall.

No one does more and pays more for conservation and habitat preservation than hunters. The ANTI's are fringe hunters looking only for a handout. Like they believe everyone should buy their meat at Safeway where it is "made" without any animals having to suffer.

I think this impression that there is a huge anti-hunting group out there in the world is somewhat exaggerated.

Most people rarely if ever think of hunting one way or the other.
