In principal I agree with what BCWill has to say (especially the awareness part).
What I would like to add to his comments is that our individual actions and awareness create our bear statistics and to mention that Treadwell never killed game.
From my experience if you are going to have a serious problem with a bear it will most likely occur when an animal is down. There is little doubt the odds of a bear turning aggressive go up exponentially if it observes the hunter gutting an animal is completely unaware of its presence. Plain and simple bears are opportunists.
Body language and awareness are more important than anything else in grizzly country....Including caliber selection.
I believe this is why the guides have so few bear problems.
