Grizzly at 9 yards

Great piece of video, and congrats on the beautiful bear!

I never would have thought that any comment could be stupid enough to detract from footage like that...and then, lo and behold: three pop up!

I love hunting, but still pains me to see beautiful animals get shot. I guess I don't think about it too much when I take a deer.

Glad you didnt get a richochet with all the rocks around

Do it with an arrow and get back to me.

Reminds me of the Canada In the Rough show where regardless of what they were hunting, they would be using a stainless Browning A-bolt in .300 WSSM with a pricey scope on it (no iron sights). There was one episode where they were duck hunting in New Brunswick & I nearly fell off my chair when they using 12 gauge shotguns. :p

I'm neutral on trophy hunting simply because it's disuniting the community to speak against it.

What I do wonder about is people who basically crawl up the animal's butt, shoot it and then go "Oh my god, it totally could have mauled me. I'm very brave!"

If you're going to kill something just kill it and be done. Hunting isn't life and death for 99.9% of people in north america, so why risk your life? If you're doing it to get a rush, get your wife to choke you while you're getting it on. It's not the killing that bothers me, it's what I perceive as a lack of respect for the animal by making the act of killing it a stunt.

^In the show: "North of 60" everyone blamed Joe Gomba for scaring off the caribou population. The story was Joe was guiding some hunters & posed for a pic with his foot on top of the caribou. Since then, no caribou were sighted in the territory for 15 yrs. :p

That little movie did nothing for me........besides wanting that bear too come out on top. Just not into shooting bears. Wonder if they ate that bear or just hung it's head on the wall.

That was TJ Schwanky and his mate. Sounded so much more exciting in his story in AO magazine rather lame seeing it on video.

I shoot a fair number of coyotes and I certainly don't eat them.....even have a few hanging on my wall. Can't help but wonder if this hunt was only described in print rather than a webvideo as well....if there would be so many haters. I think the "haters" are just individuals looking for some attention.....maybe because these ppl probably won't ever have an opportunity to have a hunt this awesome.

You may be right. Certainly different strokes for different folks, but one thing a live video does is remove all the romantic elements that you can create by writing a story or making a movie. Everything is reduced to cold hard reality.

Personally I would have been satisfied with the video & photos, but I'd sure shoot him if he came after me. Big old grizzlies are pretty awesome, I'd like to see a lot more in our province.

Sorry if my comments are stupid but that is your opinion, I hope I could have mine with out judgement. Where is the rest of my post? Despite the fact I hunt myself, I do have appreciation for the beauty of the animals we take and i have some compassion. I dont think it wrong to shoot animals for out own use and there is no critisism in my post. Perhaps I should explain my self so I don't sound stupid next time.

My apologies...I probably over-cooked that comment a bit. I certainly understand the element of remorse that accompanies (and should accompany!) the taking of an animal, and don't find fault with it. Your comment closely followed a conversation I had with an acquaintance of mine, a typically hypocritical burger-eating rabid antihunter who bemoans the death of any deer or rabbit 'cuz they're "cute", but feels that predators should be exterminated because they are "nasty". It was a knee-jerk reaction on my part.

I have less empathy for the other two comments, but again, I overdid it.

NO Scope Necessary

Wow, lots of guys looking to become the next Pope with that holier than thou attitude.
Cool video, and I wasn't rooting for the bear. I also like hunting for reasons other than food. Maybe I'm sick and twisted or maybe I'm just being honest.

Thank you JJ.
I have had my share of debates with ignorant commercial meat eaters who take no responsibility in the meat or leather that is killed for their consumption. Sometimes there is no winning. We as hunters and gun nuts should show compassion and appreciation for hunting and shooting. We as the superior species are responsible for our resources, especially hunters. We are an unfortunate minority in Canada that are over scrutinized even with our strict laws. Anyway I digress.

Thank you for sharing this grizzly hunt. I am surprised the dog didnt scare him off. (Assuming he was behind the camera)

thats exactly what I was thinking when I was watching it

As I mentioned earlier, bear was at 40 yards when I was glassing him and the point of looking through the binos was to ensure it was a boar...we didn't want to kill a sow. Vanessa would have quite happily killed the bear at 40 or even 100 yards but no opportunity for a shot presented itself and then the terrain prevented a shot off the rock as it got closer and I made the call at 9 yards that Vanessa needed to stand up and end things or the possibility of it getting a whole lot worse was a reality.....the bear was still coming closer. She made a great shot and thankfully the bear ran the other way. I'd have preferred she shot it at a greater distance but that wasn't an option so we worked with the circumstances we were handed. Sometimes that the way things go outside of the internet :)

why did the mods move this thread from OT to hunting back to OT then ended combining two threads and deleting comments? is that really necessary?

Yes it was. Because the second thread originated in OT and many of the comments were from the anti hunting crowd. This is the hunting section of the board and is for hunting and positive hunting experiences, anti hunting comments will be considered sh1t disturbing here in the hunting section and will not be tolerated as per CGN rules.

This section of the board is for hunters and those that enjoy hunting and want to discuss related hunting topics, the other comments can go somewhere else as in Off Topics.

why not just lock the other thread instead of combining them?

That's where the comments were... in the off topics, till it got moved by a mod.
