Be glad you never saw anyhting...Your experience sounds pretty familiar, icluding the wet dog smell...Unfortunately I wans't smart enough to listen to my gut instincts like you did, and I kept going forward...

Tod has sold all his big guns, including 416, 338 RUM etc...He sold them because he is a pansy.

face facts Bartell..The 30-06 is NOT up to the job, and you are going ot f**king die no matter what stupid bullet you use...

Wow. Ok. Maybe this is like why he does all this coyote hunting, cause he's recoil shy

tb, maybe load some 150 gr tsx bullets down to 300 Savage levels :)

Bullet choice is not near as critical as delivery system. A stellar performer like a 710 or a well used 742 woodsmaster should serve you well. Good luck.

meh, if it were me I'd go 338 WM, or maybe 458. I don't believe in the concept of 'overkill,' and while they're more than strictly necessary, they are a better choice in all respects except recoil. Plus, I hate the 30-06 ;)

don't need anything that spacial i like the Nosler Partition or the Swift A-frame. If you hit em right a 180 gr winchester old school silver tip will work I know from experience.

180 gr. or 200 gr. Winchester Fail Safe. The Fail Safe bullet will penetrate the thick skin and heavy muscle before it expands. That's what they're designed to do. They're the ones in the black boxes.

I had a chance once to go after coast grizzley, and I was loading 220 gr. RN with 4831 but could not get enough powder in the case so I switched to Norma 205. It was more than adequate for a deer but the grizzley hunt evaporated.
Now 40 years later I would definitely be looking at a 200 grain premium bullet, either a Barnes or a Nosler.
