I though I would share a few mods I recently completed on my Grizzly, it is still a work in progress though. I want to explore some different options for a sling as it will be carried daily on the job. I will also be refinishing it with a more durable option at some point.

I replaced the synthetic kit with wood more because I prefer the feel of wood stocks over synth ones. The buttstock has been shortened to a 12" LOP so it shoulders quickly over my field vest and raingear. The forend is an old Remington Sportsman variant with the cheap pressed in checkering removed and regrooved, it has also been shortened like a police model forend which facilitates clearing in the unlikely event of a double feed. I find the deeper grooving versus a police forend is great, even when soaking wet.

I also have converted the mag cap retention system to the Wingmaster style as it is far more postive than the prior Express style with the stupid plastic retainer that did not alow 4 3 inch rounds in the mag tube.

The sights are definitely Remington kit and look to be off a 7400/7600 variant, thanks Joe NWT for the deal. They have been "sweated" on with medium temp silver solder. They are on there good, as I "tested" them with a pair of vise grips after the instal, less than scientific I know!

If you find your Grizzly really pound the sh*t out of your cheek when fireing full power loads you should consider a set of sights as it raises the sighting plane just enough to alleviate the battering! My co-workers thought I got in a scrap after 50 slugs as the side of my face was noticeably swollen for a few days.

I have also done a little bit of work to the internals to improve cylcing and facilitate easier charging of the magazine. It is now just as slick as my 70's vintage Wingmaster that has probabley had 20K rounds through it.

Enough talk, here are the pics. Sorry about their size, I should have made them larger to show a bit better detail.

Thanks Eddy!

Yes, I had it out on the weekend and put another 100 slugs and 50 rounds of birdshot thru it. It works like a charm. Offhand slug groups at 25 yds are in the 2 1/2" mark (1 large ragged hole). I still haven't wrung it out at longer ranges yet. The I/C winchoke really helped the groups out compared to the stock modified tube that came with the gun.

still one of many of these I've seen that I actually like. Sometimes it's nice to see a little wood, even with tactical applications. I would now consider buying one(if they weren't sold out everywhere)

Eddy, if you ever do buy one and want to put a Rem forend on you will have to slightly enlarge the interior diameter as the Grizzly forend metal is slightly larger in diameter than the Remington version.

Thanks, I will note that. I will probably get one from Canam if the T97's are rejected or reclassed. I seriously think it looks better than any 870 though. Must be the fact that every tactical pump I see these days are synthetic. Tons of police wood 870 forends on the EE too, which makes this build easy and fun.

Plink,

It is pretty hard to fully detail how and where every bit of the polishing was done. It required full disassembly of the trigger group. One of the biggest gains was polishing the front of the hammer where is bears on the bolt during the cocking cycle. The front of the hammer looked it was CNC plasma cut or machined with a dull cutter on my gun. It felt like the bolt was running against a file when you cycled it. The other area that required some attention were the shell latch cam cuts on the action bars. All of the polishing was done with hand stones and wet or dry 600 then 1000 grit. The only time a dremel was used was to remove a bit of material at the entrance of the mag tube in the receiver. This was to eliminate the occasional bind that occured when loading the tube.

Very nice. Is that front sight hooded? Didn't realize the Remington sights could have hoods attached.

Leg

That is a sight hood that came with the sight. The sights on my factory 20" rem slug barrel are identical, except they do not have the slot for the site hood to slide into. I am not sure if the hood will stay their permanently, I will have to shoot it under a variety of light conditions to make a decision. I will also see how it behaves on the job too, it may not be durable enough for the abuse it will receive.

Cool, any chance of a close up of the front sight? I've got an old Ithaca 37 that I wanted to do up as an old school riot gun and wanted to add a set of Remington rifle sights, thought the only thing missing was a hood. If they're identical it should be easy enough for someone to slot it for me.

I like the whiteline, red rubber pad, gives it that old school, retro look.

As for the sling, if you intend on daily carry I'd recommend putting a sling swivel on the left side of the stock and using a good quick adjust two point sling like the Vickers or a Boonie Packer. You can carry at the ready or slung over the back for hands free use.

Leg, I have a boonie sling and I am going to try it when I get a wingmaster style mag cap with a swivel, the stock grizzly cap sling attachment point is too narrow to accept the Boonie Packer. Also with sling being attached right at the end of the muzzle I'm not sure how the Boonie will behave. I really like the Boonie sling when used with a 20" barrel, it keeps the gun right in front of me at the ready while my hands were taking measurement and filling out field cards.

I will also try to get a close up of the front site and I can e-mail them to you if you would like, PM me with your e-mail addy.

Steve

Hi Guy's I been away from shooting for awhile and recently decided to get a new camp gun when I came across the Dominion Arms Grizzly 12 1/2" barrel 12Guage with the ghost sights. I guess you could call it " Love at First Sight" It sounds like you guys kind a feel the same. Where are they made ??? Jack
