I though I would share a few mods I recently completed on my Grizzly, it is still a work in progress though. I want to explore some different options for a sling as it will be carried daily on the job. I will also be refinishing it with a more durable option at some point.
I replaced the synthetic kit with wood more because I prefer the feel of wood stocks over synth ones. The buttstock has been shortened to a 12" LOP so it shoulders quickly over my field vest and raingear. The forend is an old Remington Sportsman variant with the cheap pressed in checkering removed and regrooved, it has also been shortened like a police model forend which facilitates clearing in the unlikely event of a double feed. I find the deeper grooving versus a police forend is great, even when soaking wet.
I also have converted the mag cap retention system to the Wingmaster style as it is far more postive than the prior Express style with the stupid plastic retainer that did not alow 4 3 inch rounds in the mag tube.
The sights are definitely Remington kit and look to be off a 7400/7600 variant, thanks Joe NWT for the deal. They have been "sweated" on with medium temp silver solder. They are on there good, as I "tested" them with a pair of vise grips after the instal, less than scientific I know!
If you find your Grizzly really pound the sh*t out of your cheek when fireing full power loads you should consider a set of sights as it raises the sighting plane just enough to alleviate the battering! My co-workers thought I got in a scrap after 50 slugs as the side of my face was noticeably swollen for a few days.
I have also done a little bit of work to the internals to improve cylcing and facilitate easier charging of the magazine. It is now just as slick as my 70's vintage Wingmaster that has probabley had 20K rounds through it.
Enough talk, here are the pics. Sorry about their size, I should have made them larger to show a bit better detail.
