GSG-16 - Cracked Bolt Housing ... With Pics

I never ran hot ammo through mine, and it still damaged it. 1235fps isn’t hot for .22LR, especially for a semi-auto which needs the back pressure to cycle the action consistently and reliably. Even the receiver is marked for .22LR High Velocity.

I understand that from a 10/22 user's perspective, 1235fps isn't considered 'hot' ammo. But the GSG-16 is more like a bridge between airsoft and a 10/22, not really a 'serious' firearm in that it is made primarily of plastic and pot metal. As such, I came into owning one with the expectation of having to substantially modify it to make the thing more reliable, while at the same time using nothing 'hotter' than CCI SV owing to the limitations inherent in the materials, especially considering the very light weight of the gun overall. It's a toy, but a fun one, and I wanted in on that fun, but was aware of the limitations from an engineering perspective.

Generally true statement however, both of my gsg16 rifles cycle cci subsonic reliably. What's more peculiar is that Aguila SSS 60gr cycles as well.

That stuff is weird. I've tried it in a pistol and a couple of rifles, and it's not quiet at all, and really unstable, hitting targets sideways even at 10 yards. Couldn't group worth a darn out of anything, so I'm glad not to have wasted money on more than a couple of 50-round boxes.

Can you provide a link where you got your rear drum sight? Also could you post some close up photos of how it is mounted? I would love to swap my stock rear sight out.

This should look familiar
This is the original design GSG 5.
This page is also describing what happened to your rifle

They are saying that the part that cracked on your rifle is a plastic cover on the bolt carrier assembly that can become loose and then cracks when cycling against the ejection port.
the bolt itself is not damaged just that plastic cover.

Lots of good info there, thanks! One of those guys claims the bolt “cover” cracks because of a loose extractor. Mine seems fine, but I’ll have to take a closer look.

Alright boys, she broke today.

The gun still functions. I’m not sure about any damage that might happen from using it in this state.

I got about 16,000 rounds through it before the bolt cover cracked. Not too bad for a very cheap gun.

Anyways … I’m still looking for a parts gun on the EE. Blueline was no help (shocker) for any warranty or replacement parts.

Maybe a local machine shop could tig that pièce back in place. I'm surprised you can't get a replacement part. I just bought a gsg16, unfired, new, I regret the purchase.

Sucks that this happened to him and that blueline isn't any help but it's a sample size of one.

Go out and shoot your gsg have some fun its not worth living your life worrying about a miniscule chance your $500 purchase might break.

So that whole "buy through Blue line or no warranty" was crap? What does "Limited" lifetime warranty cover?

Sounds like (in hind-site) it doesn't matter who you purchased through - there doesn't seem to be any warranty after the fact.

Why do you regret the purchase? It’s a fun gun. Keep your expectations reasonable, and it’s enjoyable. It’s a $500 gun. It’s fun to toy around with, and there are lots of possible configurations which keeps this platform exciting. Just keep spare parts handy if you put many rounds through it like I do. It eventually starts to fall apart.

I talked with a local gun store (well, an hour away) about Blue Line and they had some horror stories. Even for items under warranty, it was like pulling teeth to get any kind of prompt service and the store ended up having to eat some cost due to some inconspicuous business practices to which Blue Line subjected them. It was so bad, that they cancelled their account with the company and all its products.

That being said, the GSG-16 is an extremely fun gun to own and shoot.
