GSh-18 - A handgun to defeat any body armor

Both the previous writers are correct. If you're seriously interested in rounds that will penetrate body armour, sooner or later somebody's going to take an interest in you because possession of those rounds is illegal in Canada. The FN pistol that came out a few years ago was built around a small caliber, high velocity cartridge that was specifically designed to penetrate body armour, and while the gun can be purchased, that ammunition is generally unavailable to the public. And yes, the gun can be anything -- the cartridge is the thing. About twenty years ago there was a big flap in The States about the KTW 9mm cartridge because it was made from tungsten and would penetrate body armour. It was withdrawn shortly.

Ugly!

It is a standard 9mm Luger, only the ammo is armour piercing.

Interesting that it has a 103mm barrel. Maybe a batch with a barrel a few mm longer could make it over here.

GSH-18 PR wave now reached the other side of the earth :)

First of all, it was a more of a prototype weapon, designed from the scratch by people who built cannons for jet fighters. You can find basic info on it:

http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg111-e.htm

Rotating barrel, very light, slim, prone to jamming due to open front of the slide

Together with the gun a new ammo was developed. Essentially hot +p+ 9mm lugger round. Bullet has steel core penetration insert with softer jacket around it.

Very few built, very problematic so far. Few people shot it but comments range greatly from "superb" to "junk".

In short - forget about it. Its for the next Call of Duty videogame.

What about the SMG? PP-2000... Wikipedia says it's been issued to various agencies.

The round is very interesting.... guns.ru says it performs better than both the equivalent FN & HK rounds.

Let me put it this way "why are you interested in SMG built around armor piercing ammo"? :)

Other than that, I don't know anything worth mentioning about PP-2000. But if you needed decent performance against armored targets in a real combat situation you would go with:

and
http://world.guns.ru/assault/as10-e.htm

if you are expecting people with bodyarmor going against you pistols are not an option in my opinion. Yet again, why would you be interested in that anyway :)

The GSH-18 can use ordinary 9mm. I find it interesting because it is based on the design of an aircraft cannon. Also it is small and very ergonomic looking. The ammunition type is another issue. Personally I don't care what people shoot out of their firearms as long as they are not doing anything illegal. There is too much hype about armour piercing ammunition or the famous media term:"High Powered Rifle".

Everyone repeat after me, Russia doesnt export weapons of war to civilians.
No newly adopted pistols, rifles, or SMG's are for civilians. Rifles in 5.45 also not coming out of the country. Those weapons that are even close to there military counterparts are missing certain features, use lesser materials, or in the case of a rifle like the saiga, the X39 model has flutes to mark the brass.

Russia is very clear on there unwillingness to export any service weapons to civilians.

There's nothing interesting about this, many cartridges can defeat armor, all of them considered prohibited ammunition in Canada
