Guga Ribas Holster

I love mine. Will be setting it up for my new Shadow this week. Currently using it with my Tanfoglio Stock II. Talk to Frank he'll set you up properly as they do need to be fit to your gun.

Can you tell me where can I buy one for my Shadow in Canada. I am in GTA.:) Thanks

And what model no. is for the CZ SHadow? Some say FSH 02, some say FSH04 &05???

And I'd called CRAMF, they don't have any that fits the Shadow...out of stock:(((

Are they works better than Ghost?

New Shadow,...your off to the darkside:yingyang:,...how did that happen?

Get yourself BladeTech DOH holster instead. That one you could use in US and it is more secure then any race holster. :D

I have the DOH in use. But would like to have a race holster.
Anyone know where to get it in CANADA???
FOR SHADOW ....please:redface:

Freedom Ventures has CR-Speed holsters. but When you get DQed, because gun dropped out of the holster, don't say that we haven't warned you.

strange how people seem to think that "race" holsters are unsafe and drop gun.i am presently using a CR speed and after 7 years i still have to see this phenomena.

No, they are not "unsafe". They simply give you a much smaller margin of safety for mishaps, they are much more likely to cause a problem, they cost a lot more, and realistically speaking they don't add anything, performance wise, to 99.99% of the shooters. But they look cool, and it makes you look like you know what you're doing, haha, and for a lot of shooters, that's important...

Shoot whatever you want, but let's not pretend that race holsters are just as good for new shooters as DOH, safety wise. Just because an experienced handler might have never gotten bit by one, doesn't mean that someone looking to get a pet snake should get the deadliest one there it, just because it looks pretty :)

I believe the comparison being made is between Race Holsters that provide two points of contact with a gun (Like the CR Speed and Safariland) as opposed to those that offer only one (Limcat, Speedsec, Ghost, Guga, Kirsch) and the ability for a dropped gun. Not Race vs. Carry; which is as obvious as the noses on our faces.

All I'll say is walk close enough to a loose snow fence barrier with your strong side, and unless you have L2 retention +, you're gonna loose that gun ;)

Yup, mine hit the cement as well. I can see it at the end of the frame...ARgh.
(this was with my ghost), but could have well been my Bladetech. 232lbs going one way, gun going the other.

I used a Safariland 010 exclusively for about 9 years. It has not trigger locking mechanism. I never once was DQ'd for the gun falling out of the holster. I've had to retrieve it a half dozen times after it fell on the ground between stages, and have had to "adjust it" because it had popped loose.

Never once in those 9 years have I felt I needed to get a CR Speed, Ghost, Speedsec, Guga or whatever other holster. I just liked my Safariland.

I've upgraded to the 013 with the lock that you can't even pull through. I'm hoping it serves just as well as the 010.

Construction of a race holster

I think I found a best construction of a race holster.
I have couple of them and used them for about 3 years.

This is a typical race holster with a post to rest a barrel on and a trigger guard lock.
Trigger guard is locked in place by a wedge:

This lock mechanism is very simple, which I believe makes it more reliable. It allows inserting gun from the front, and pulling the gun straight up. To take the gun from the holster you need to pull it straight up for about 1 inch, which I think prevents gun from falling out because of small bump.
When lock mechanism is engaged - it is almost impossible to pull the gun from the holster. However placement of the lock lever is such that it is very easy to unlock it during the draw:

In fact it's even hard to try and draw the gun without unlocking the holster.
So with this construction, if stage involves some actions with you strong hand before the draw, like carrying some suitcase, a broom or something - it's very easy (and very safe) to leave holster locked, do what you need to do, and then unlock it during the draw. It will add no more than 0.1-0.2 seconds to your draw (if any at all).
This holster construction also improves safety during the insertion of the gun: if I was stupid enough to try to insert the gun in the holster while holding my finger on the trigger - at no time holster put pressure on the finger towards the trigger, as gun is inserted by moving from the front to the back, finger will just bump into the frame (not that I condone such safety violation in any way):

I think this is best possible construction of the race holster.
I'm not trying to promote any particular brand of holsters, just wanted to give some ideas on what to look for in the race holster.
This holster is also easy to adjust to different guns by using inserts of various thickness and moving the bottom part up or down.

And I particularly dislike the Ghost holster. I've seen myself couple occurrences of gun falling from these holsters during stage, causing DQ. I think their locking mechanism is too complicated.

Hmm I thought you were one of the shooters this weekend.
If CRAFM doesn't have one for your Shadow you'll have look south of the border.

If you look back at the last few Nationals and some provincials, there is usually at least one "experienced" shooter per year that gets DQ'd by a gun falling to the ground at the most inopportune time.

Having a gun/holster mishap is kind of like those who have not been DQ'd in a match... it's just a matter of time. A race holster pretty much guarantees that.

I think JPD is a great example of how insignificant a "race" holster really is when he is routinely putting a 20% difference between 1st and 2nd place in pretty much every match he shoots (with a DOH no less).

This is purely my opinion of course.
