Gun control officially useless ; AR15s as easy to make as pancakes.

The anti-gun RCMP's nightmare made real. Imagine the fits we'd cause if small groups of shooters across the country threw in to buy a couple of moulds for each group and started having "casting partys" on a regular basis. Then dutifully requesting that the CFP register the new lower. You'd exponentially increase the number of registered AR pattern firearms in the registry to a point where they'd be so numerous that even the most ardent gun grabber sitting in the House of Commons would throw in the proverbial towel and admit that there is no justification for the AR being classified as restricted and recognize it as a legitimate hunting and sporting firearm.

Or they just declare the uppers prohibited items and then it doesn't seem all so peaches and cream.

...so stock up on uppers.

Some of the more virulent femistas would say yes, I should be. But that's beside the point.
Canadian Firearms laws are an incomprehensible cluster#### that requires a completely stripped AR receiver to be treated as if it were a fully functional firearm as well as outright prohibiting replica firearms.
Also they attempt to criminalize intentions.
I made the post in an attempt to point out the absurdity of some of the rules.

and that was my point ...... as well ..... if people are going to be charged with things before they do them based on knowledge and ability , that is going to open up a never ending can of worms ...... until everyone is crushed to death under the weight of worms .

better yet , make working models out of chocolate , register them , then have someone eat 1/2 of it and submit the paper work for its destruction

I don't see how this has any bearing on the validity of gun control. I have no issue with the rules that I have to abide by as an RPAL holder. I could live with less admittedly.

To think that this technology and process is actually useful to our criminals in the procurement of an AR 15 is a bit much and very Hollywood.

It does nothing to the state or effectiveness of gun control in Canada in my opinion.

Yeah, there's no way criminal organizations could do anything this complicated. That's why they haven't managed to develop networks for smuggling drugs internationally.

Seems tougher than 3D printed lowers. You could pack steel wool or glass fibre into the mould, I don't know anything about moulding, there must be some way of beefing it up.
You could have aluminium inserts for the buffer tube threads for example.
I suppose if it breaks you make a new one, and you can have My Little Pony color inserts. A good way to keep the kids quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

Possibly.
Or maybe they would freak out enough to ban all variants of the AR-15 outright.

It takes a whole boxful of sophisticated parts to complete the rifle. As far as showing the futility "gun control" goes, there are lots of designs out there for guns that don't need a multitude of factory made pieces. In India, Australia, and other places with significant restrictions, non-commercial firearms appear in serious numbers in criminal hands.

Yes, we do have so much Cartel crime here in Ontario...

Look at the mopes getting caught up in crime in Canada. Now think of them receiving one of these casting kits...

I wouldn't be losing any sleep over it.

And the criminal organizations that have developed drug networks won't be casting their firearms any time soon either. It is far easier to just get a factory built unit.

Actually, its not.
Have you seen how easy casting this thing is? And how cheap? Have you considered how much more expensive and risky buying an ar15 on the black market probably is?

The point being, gun control is supposed to make it so hard for criminals to get guns that there is a clear gain for public safety when they cant just get a gun off of a store shelf. These innovations undoubtably negate that.

Its the same as if knife control was around. Everybody would understand how stupid it is, because of how easy it is to make a sharp and pointy object in your garage with basic tools.

I've done plenty of casting in several mediums and I made the patterns and molds too in some cases. If you want a part that is on spec it is anything but easy. It also isn't cheap.

The internet has made a legion of people think that because they saw it done, they can do it too. Sure this kit is just that, a kit that takes a lot of the challenges out of getting a casting. Even if you nail this casting you have a long way to go. Look at all the posts on here about guys who can't get an upper to fit a lower...

This is no lay up for criminals or law abiding enthusiasts.

What's going to happen is not random thugs casting AR lowers.

What's going to happen is a criminal with a particular interest in guns will get good at making them, and supply them for a price.

Exactly the way drug dealers don't synthesize all their own meth. If anyone thinks that there aren't a bunch of criminals out there with the skill set to manufacture a chemical or mechanical product, man...I just don't even know what to say. You'd really have to know absolutely nothing about criminal organizations in this country to believe that.

^ This. I don't own any AR,(not yet anyways) but this would be a challenge. Not saying that it can't be done by any one, its the skill level that its going to be acquired over time to make everything fit correctly. But it would be definitely worth it to some one that is into such projects. I can't say it will be my first step into the AR15 world, but it is something that i would try and pursue. But a couple of question, how reliable are the polymer lowers, and what would be the reliability of this lower if one is to attempt for the first time.

So much of the reliability question has to start with the polymer supplied - is it great or good or designed to be "easy to use". Next is whether or not the user can follow instructions. Things to consider would be temperature, accurate dispensing of components and a good pour which avoided air bubbles. Not rocket science but there are pitfalls that only experience can really help avoid.

Yah. Just like when you make pancakes.

Look, whatever man. This is a cool innovation that makes guns an even easier item to own and makes gun laws even less relevant than they already are. As gunnies we should be thankful for it. If you can't see the point, well then I guess it sucks to be you. You wanna run around talking about reliability and air bubbles and how its so complicated to pour a liquid into a mold and follow simple instructions, knock yourself out.

But enjoying life and the little things is something you should look into, as well as the bigger picture.
