We finished putting pine on the ceiling this afternoon. Now for trim, cleanup, carpet, and move in.

I think I am going to follow plans for a decent reloading bench, with removable press mounts, along the lines given here: http://www.rifleshootermag.com/ammunition/benchs_022607/

I had made similar ones some years back with scrap plywood.

We have the place all wired now, water and drain pipes hidden. Ah man, I have been waiting for a room like this for 50 years!!

Taken from each end. The first pic shows the wall to the right that I will have a reloading bench on, and my big computer desk will be at the end.

from a recent thread

I had a fire in my loading room, on the carpeted floor. It was scary because there were several kegs of powder on the floor. I emptied 3 fire extiguishers, but the fires kept coming back. too much powder in the carpet. Finally i got it with water.

my floor is now painted concrete and gets swept after each session.

My son has a loadng room where he was loading large quantities of 50BMG. Lots of powder on hand. Powder burns very hot. If a drum of powder goes up, you can die - quickly.

here is what we do. A 5 gallon jerry can of water is on the floor. The lid is sitting on the big opening, but not screwed on. If a fire breaks out, the drill is to tip the can and run. The water will drown a fire on the floor. if the fire is on the bench, the can be picked up and dumped.

Never allow your self to store any powder between you and the door. You need a safe direction to run. Powder fires have been fatal in canada.

I don't know why but this made me laugh out loud!

Nice room kjohn!

I agree great looking room.
I also agree you made me laugh to . I had to wonder about the carpet concern and I figured it would be some paranoid fear, so I asked because I had to hear the story. Based on "others" useful explanation of the fire hazzard it actually made sense and has some good points to be considered.

That is a Sweet looking room!!! Would love to see it after you get things settled in, also what are the room dimensions?

Very good point about the reloading and powder getting trapped in the carpet, you should check out those rubber square flooring tiles used in garages and such, easy to lift to vaccum and they would look great if you got the black and white checker board look.

Nice job, when your done you can come over and build me one too!!!!:D

Do you have any heat in there? I would also skip the carpet. Better to sweep spilled powder than vacuum...

Okay! Just to keep the peace on CGN, I went to Regina today and bought some 10mm laminate flooring in a lighter fake oak. Now, don't tell me there is something wrong with putting laminate in a gun room!:p

Seriously, I do appreciate the heads up on the carpet idea. I had already purchased some nice light colored carpet, but I can use it at my cabin.

The room is an old cistern. I am sure the Berlin Wall came down with less effort and dust than just cutting a doorway into this room. It is nearly 7' x 22' and mostly +8' high. For anybody who can't figure out the dimensions because they aren't in metric, the room is about 7' x 22' x 8ish'.:p

The three outside walls are insulated, the floor is 2x6 joists and 3/4" OSB/Aspenite t&g. Some of the funny little dips and doodles on the ceiling are to conceal the plumbing, with access to taps, traps, etc. The entry door will be reinforced so that an ordinary bashing won't get you in.

I am so looking forward to having a good home for my 200+ long guns, handguns, and related collection of nearly 50 years.

As a sort of salute to my old Dad, who built the house in 1949 for his family, I will give his two long guns the first night of locked storage all by them selves!

Well, now I've got to clean the floor for the umpteenth time and start putting the flooring down.

Cant wait for the finished pictures.....please keep us updated....I will check back often. I am planning on using a corner of my basement for this as that all i am limited to.

Here we go! I laid the flooring this evening. It worked out really good, with just around an inch left at the wall.

Dad's old BSA M1917 30-06 in the corner. I will start putting the corner finish boards, etc, probably Monday.
