Gun Shops in Montreal

I'll second CRAFM, good people. Dante is not the greatest, to start with is the ridiculous size and location of their outfit.

Yes but they do have a lot of stuff on hand. If I need powder I go to Dante, but I don't see myself buying a gun from them:(

LOL @ the gun ferengi comment, hehe. And yeah, like heavyBullet said, it definitely gets crowded and busy in there. Must be all those unsatisfied customers...

Nothing to do with Rudy's service, trust me. Jimmy and Aldo save the day every time. Also lot of people dont know about internet gun buying or other places in Canada. Even if they do they bite the bullet and go to Dante for the convenience and listen painfully how Rudy is giving them the best deal in town "speech" ;)

I love Dante. Bought most of my handguns there. Service is excellent. You need something and they will find it for you right away.

I know that some other shops that were selling non-restricted firearms are now beginning to sell restricted stuff. Londero in St-Jean (QC) and Latulippe (Quebec City).

Dante (and others)

Dante:

Mixed experience for me. One time I got a Badger bolt knob on my Rem 700, was done perfectly.

Than on another occasion, I got a scope installed and it hit me in the face on the first shot, it was not tight enough (OUCH!!!). Pretty hard to miss, installing a scope!

The deal is if he likes you (whatever criteria it's based on) you will be ok. Otherwise, get ready to pay more.

I mostly get my rifles from out of province (I save Qc taxes too!).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For gunsmiths, I drive to Lavaltrie. It's far but the guys there are A1 in my book. I had to get major work done on a Rem 700 and they did great. On another occasion I needed parts for a stolen rifle, they handled it perfectly (ordering, adjustments, head space, bluing, ...)

There used to be one in Ste-Rose Laval but that shop is closed.

I have heard that there is one pretty good gunsmith at Sail-Baron in Laval but I have no experience with that guy. Apparently he does gunsmithing for the RCMP but don't quote me on that!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is another one in Ste-Hyacinthe (Lusignant A R). He works ok but he is expensive. And make sure you know your stuff, he screwed me BIG time when I purchased my first rifle.

There is another one in Montreal, Alain Combes. Don't waist your time. I went to his shop for a small job, he didn't even look at me, didn't talk to me, ignored me completely. I guess he didn't want my business or my job was to boring for him to bother.

There you go, my 2 cents!

Go to Dante, it is worth the experience. Rudy (the owner) is a real gentleman. He does not like lowballers, just toodle on up to LeBaron if you want to deal with "bigbox" store.
I bought my first pistol there, Rudy was great and took all the time I needed. I'll most definitely stop in whenever I am close.

I agreed with Hoser-eh,although I never been to the store before but just made my recent purchase over the phone.

They don't have the item I want in stock (actually nobody in Canada has it in stock and waiting time is 3 to 6 months) but Rudy has an used one in exc condition and was quoted me the price 25% less than the price of a new one.

I didn't take that right away but after numerous calls to many dealers across the Country (nobody has it) and I call Rudy back and told him I want it at the price he quoted but he volunteer to knock off another 10% plus free shipping.

I have to give Rudy a thumbs up because he knew nobody has it and I have already agreed to pay his price but he still give me a break!

I can't speak for others but Dante has one more happy customer now!

I discovered Dante online at the beginning of this year. I have since spent a couple of grand with them based on their prices alone. I have found all staff members very helpful though a little rushed over the phone. Never visited the store. And apart from a couple of minor issues (not worth the details) I have been pretty happy.
