Gun Show Ethics - What Would You Do?

Do I take this to mean that you are my protagonist? My anti-hero? My Nemesis? A Villain?

What costume do you wear?? Black I'm sure.....something ominous.

Considering that "Alien vs. Predator" made it to theaters, I'd guess that "Social Justice Warrior vs. User Guy" would draw in at least a few crowds, no??

The uniform is black with orange accents and I can be villain and hero simultaneously. Google rinzler and you will see pics of me as a young man. I am fat now so you can just imagine what that looks like.

Yes, it's called personal responsibility. It seems to be all the rage on this site except when Social Justice Warrior Super Heroes go to gun shows.

But for all their internet bluster I've yet to see one actually butt into a transaction at a gun show. Perhaps they're more like imaginary comic book heroes than they realize.

It's shocking that you think it's wrong to help an inexperienced person make an informed choice.

Man, I've almost gotten into fisticuffs in Walmart ( Who'da thunk...lol ) and Sobeys with people who were over the top rude. If you want to spew profanity or expect me to deal with your refuse in a store...it's on. I am usually very cordial; hold open doors, please & thank you every few sentences. But upon encountering an Ass-hat...I'll call you on it.
And unless you are Paul Bunyan big...why should I endure your crap?
Because in my world...people draw lines in the sand.
Really.
So fisticuffs are a real possibility. And sometimes ( mostly in the past...I'm getting more skilled at confrontation in my advancing years; not tougher, just better at not having to get physical ) I'd get an Ass-whupping.
It happens. If you want to play rough, you don't always win...just a fact
Doesn't mean I have to abide BS though...and rip-off BS artists are not OK

God I hope you need a pull out of the ditch one day. I'll be the guy in the 1 ton diesel 4x4, with the tow rope under the back seat, that drives right past. You'll know me by my "social justice league" window sticker.
Keep driving. I'll be the guy who'll be happily waiting for a professional tow instead of having to put up with some unqualified monster truck owner whose high and might opinion of himself is at odds with his childish vengeance fantasies.

It's shocking that you think it's wrong to help an inexperienced person make an informed choice.
It's not wrong if your assistance is sought. I've done it often and will do it again anytime. What is wrong is taking it upon yourself to butt into someone else's transaction simply because of some perceived sense of social in justice.

If it's okay at gun shows should it not apply everywhere? What about interrupting people placing orders in restaurants? "Hey, don't order soup. It sucks! That steak is tough and way overpriced!"

These threads some would think are absolute garbage , I think other wise.

The posts on here show who can be trusted, including CGN members and who it would be unwise to buy from, trader rating or not, business or not.Gotta love the ignore feature.

Condone fraud , expect multiple BBT posts in your EE adds.

Still can't believe some take the "buyer beware" attitude.

You going to go with your kid to buy a first car or say sucks to be you when they buy a lemon for 3(X) it's value? Oh should of researched.

Bottom line -it is watching a scammer take advantage of someone. If you don't want to help, that's certainly your perogative. Ridiculing others because they find it unacceptable to let a liar pull a con job on an inexperienced person is condoning the scammers.

Giving people information so that they can make a wise choice is not confined to gun shows, either.

Well put...

The problem with a buyer beware attitude is that concept grew when screwing someone over could result in you having a new job pushing daisy's. Today the law prevents one from seeking a little justice on your own and the courts aren't really worth dealing with for about $1000. I take it as far as I can when I feel I have to step in to tell some steaming pile he's not getting away with it today. I've also had a few people tell me to mind my own business, I tell them what I said earlier, I decide what my business is, you don't like it too bad.

As for having a go, I'll tell them I'm not looking for a fight, but if they insist I won't go down easy.

It's not shocking to me in the least.

Read his other posts in other threads.

We're not allowed to call names on here, but I'm certain that he's the type that most of us would have over for a BBQ, or help move, or help build his fence.

Likely would rather take his "toughness" to his lonely grave rather than just be nice once a week or so.

Oh I will keep on driving.

Sad part is that I'm guessing your garbage attitude has dragged your offspring and wife into your misery as well. It'll be awful cold for them in that ditch while you wait for CAA.

Blatant fraud is not PERCEIVED social injustice, it's f-Ing illegal!!!

Karma can be a real b!tch.

Better to wait a few minutes than to have some poorly-equipped and inexperienced truck owner pull the bumper off your car with a tow rope. I'll wait until someone with the proper gear and ability arrives.

Good thing you mentioned that.

I pulled A LOT of bumpers off combines and tractors at the farm!!!

Thank god for knowledge wizards like you that prevent us know-it-all super heroes from trashing vehicles when trying to be helpful.

Maybe in the euphoric paradise you live in it doesn't get cold enough to have you worry about your grand kids freezing in the back seat. I know where I live it sure does, so I help. When I help, nice people say "thank you", and I feel good inside. It's nice, you should try it.

I suppose you have your gunsmith clean your shotguns too?? Just incase you reach for the loctite instead of the oil?? It's likely best to let the pros do it.

Oh Kelly, never trust a man in tights.

Clay still hasn't told us what gun desk he works/worked at in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. I asked him a while back in a thread where he expressed his disdain for anyone who dare expect a bit of customer service in exchange for their multiple thousand dollar purchase....I still wanna call his boss and let them know....there I am not MMOFB again!!!

Many pages into this subject and I see a lot of conflicting advice and opinions. How is allowing someone to get burned by a fraudulent sale good for any of us? (I say us as would hope that none here would stoop to this low a sales spiel to make some cash). Unhappy buyer ends up not happy with their choice of firearm or sport. Makes us all look bad. I am far from a SJW, I never wear tights, I use a disposable razor and I try to look that face in the mirror with some semblance of respect.

As for how to handle this... moral compass. How would you feel if your 'kid' came home with his new found treasure and you knew he/or she had just paid 3X what the item was worth? Would you tell them they deserved it, 'a learning experience', or go back with them and demand a refund. Or maybe it just lazy parenting and not teaching your kids to always question everything and just MYOB.

Can't understand anyone having a beef with someone who decides to offer to help a total stranger.

The milk of human kindness is clearly curdled in some...

As for "SJW" being bandied about. I don't think that phrase means what some think that it does.

Oh god, now what?? Have I taken on the role of a superhero for pedophiles??

I quietly advised a young Mother she should pass on the Chicken Wieners in the future at the checkout. She wasn't happy, but if she saw what they made them from she likely would have kissed me.

I think what you are missing here is that some people will stand up, regardless of the setting...the type of people that helped drag us from serfdom. If you have a problem with that I'd tell you to pound sand to your face. You don't like what I have to say, I'm happy to listen to you and follow up with an insult just to make you feel even better. I'm not the most refined person regardless of my moral compass...

I definitely would have said something to the potential purchaser. I would have pulled him/her aside and given them my opinion. It happened to me once before, I was walking into a large popular hardware store that has a car repair shop. I happened to be walking though the entrance to the repair shop when I overheard a service tech explaining to a women who had 3 kids with her, that her car was not road worthy and they couldn't let her leave with it. I stopped and listened for a few minutes. The guy was quoting her $2000 for brakes, tie rod ends, oil change and tune up. She was trying to get her husband on the phone but wasn't having any luck. The guy was pressuring her like crazy. I walked over, asked her if I could speak with her, and pulled her aside. I told her that she should just take the car to my mechanic and he would tell her exactly what needs to be done. I called my mechanic, told him what was going on, and he took her right away. Turns out, yes, she needed brakes, no tie rods. She drove out of there with with new brakes, tune up, oil change a few other minor things....$536.

Not stepping in to call bull#### on someone's story about gun provenance is one thing (do it or don't do it, i don't care) but as far as I'm concerned anyone who would watch a salesman fraudulently represent a product to such an extreme as the OP says and do NOTHING is scum.

MYOFB is one is the dumbest things people say. Sure, it has applications but this isn't one of them. To myofb with this is to condone or even promote scammers and fraudsters.
