Looks a lot like mine...

Old school Bushy Lower, Troy, DD, Cadex B.A.D., .....and....a Model One Sales Upper.:puke:

Yes, I feel like I should slap myself.

I bought it before I knew much about AR's. It seems to be built decent though, and I have 4k-ish through it with only two malfunctions. One was a stove pipe (weird) when I was trying out a very efficient muzzle device, which I think really altered the dwell time. The other malfunction was with MSF ammo. A round got stuck in the chamber and I had to mortar the rifle to clear it. Turns out there was no flash hole drilled in the case.

Light is where it should be now..

I still use a Magpul MS3, but only because I like to see the gnashing of teeth from everyone.

Sh1t, now I have to build one when I get home, just the upper. The buffer from my 14.5 lower should work right?

It might, but then it might not. Depends on the brand of barrel you pick up and the size of the gas port. Generally it's better to run a heavy buffer in SBR's and an FA carrier.

Oddly, mine uses a standard buffer and an "enhanced" carrier and it's been Swiss watch reliable with 55g. Go figure.

Yes, so much yes to keeping the crown vics. I have so much hate for ford for stopping production.

Ya most of us prefer the Crown Vic. The new one with it's six and all wheel drive feels like a cheap knock off of the much nicer and smoother Infiniti G/M35/37X models or a Subaru impreza. Balance is high and feels like a rear differential isn't working right when going around corners fast.

I guess we should be grateful it's not a Ford Focus with blue lights and the old high low siren (European sounding).

That being said I'm tempted to put a Decepticon sticker on the back due to how they look.

On that note, I like the MP5!!!

A most interesting thread and I very much like what I see in your builds!!

That's just great, another excuse to spend more money!! LOL!!

Not liking the Explorers/Tahoes/Tauri?

It's the Chargers and Caprice lol Nice brakes on the Chargers tho..

The Caprice were killers in the 90s, rear end diff. issues

Hard to beat a Crown Vic for a PPV. Good room for everything up front from, multi agency radios to rifle retention, takedown lights/alley light controls, Whelen bar controls, computers, briefcase, spare handgun mount, etc. Back seat had room for several guests and the trunk held all you cameras, tripod, investigative kit, spare shotgun, medical kit, rain gear and tactical rifle and response gear.

Crown Vic is the best, the 5.0 GT Mustangs the worst for room.

Mis dos centavos, but back to the OP.......

x2 on the MP5 inside. lol

I did a ride along in a 5 litre - I was much younger then, can't believe I crammed myself into the passenger side of one of those - had a radar set stuck in my right ear for 6 hours and a shotgun butt where my left knee used to be.

Is it just me, or is the gun pictured not the one he was talking about? Looks like a standard flat top upper, not a cut down carry handle, and there is no aimpoint on it either?
I wanted to see a pic of what he was talking about, not a modern rendition of it.

That rifle looks pretty handy. It sounds like it performed well too. I can't make out the flash hider though, any Idea what it is.

Gents

Above is a cropped picture of the carbine we are talking about

Its not listed in the spec's, and I put it in my photo software and zoomed in and for the life of me, I can not make it out.

To me it looks like an A-2 with tape around it, but why one would do that, I don't know, so I must be mistaken.

Anyone else?

Where is that Cat man Broney lover to tell us that going anything less than 16" and you might as well be shooting a .22 magnum?

I will take this line to say he was wrong;

In all fairness he was kinda right, with M193 wounding capabilities drop off severely at about 2700FPS due to lack of fragmentation, which coincidentally is about what you can expect for muzzle velocity out of a 10.5" bbl. As such, the 10.5" is a marginal performer with M193, and quickly looses much of it's effectiveness at range thanks to poor BCs. Combine this with the fact that M193 is designed for use in a 20" bbl meaning shorter barrels will produce much more flash and concussion. But then M193 isn't the only loading for 5.56, M855 doesn't particularly perform any better, but loads like the MK262 (a 77gr OTM if memory serves) or Mk318 (62 gr OTMRP) can produce much larger wound tracts at a broader range of velocities.

Is a 10.5" useless? Not with the right ammunition, and even with the wrong ammunition it'll still put holes in things, just not very big ones.
