Gunfighter Moment – Kyle Defoor: The 10.5″ ......

I notice that you place your lights very close to the muzzle. Is there a reason for this? I've always restrained from placing them so near because I didn't care for carbon build up on the lens.

my 10.3 mix a matcher I call it the MK18Mod Barkwell lol KAC lower, upper is a mix of Colt,Larue KAC Surefire in a Gear Sector mount and DD and the only sling to own a Vickers Padded

Looks a lot like mine...

Old school Bushy Lower, Troy, DD, Cadex B.A.D., .....and....a Model One Sales Upper.:puke:

Yes, I feel like I should slap myself.

I bought it before I knew much about AR's. It seems to be built decent though, and I have 4k-ish through it with only two malfunctions. One was a stove pipe (weird) when I was trying out a very efficient muzzle device, which I think really altered the dwell time. The other malfunction was with MSF ammo. A round got stuck in the chamber and I had to mortar the rifle to clear it. Turns out there was no flash hole drilled in the case.

Light is where it should be now..

I still use a Magpul MS3, but only because I like to see the gnashing of teeth from everyone.

He gives himself a little too much credit, "winning the war"?

Small arms don't win wars, certainly not a 10" pea shooter. Air-dropped ordinance and 155 mm gun tubes did.

Ok, I'm wrong again. AbHobbyist pic underneath shows it better. I didn't have that kind of resolution on my phone! When he talked about a "chopped carry handle" I just assumed it was on an A2 upper, to get a spot to mount a pic rail for the optic. Assumptions.......
So why did they not just use a folding BUIS? We're they not available at the time?

Back then they weren't even called BUIS. We had optics and we had sights. The fold down stuff didn't really hit the scene until the last six years or so.

The closer the light is to the muzzle the less barrel shadow the light will cast. In addition a 12'o clock position puts the shadow at 6 which allows maximum use of the light. If you mount your light far enough forward you eliminate the shadow. Carbon build up is part of the game. A light coat of wd40 or similar on the lens makes cleanup a snap.

Seen. Thanks.

I don't think anyone realizes that Misanthropist won this thread with his pic post, all other posts don't count.

Seriously, you guys know who's in that pic right?

Of course, but your eye does tend to be drawn to those sideburns rather than Kens mustache. So it's understandable if some people didn't notice. :D He tends to pull that pic out every now and then, just to rub it in the faces of the rest of the heathens.

Kicking myself for not trying to get on that course....

Respectfully I think there were more than a few of us who knew exactly who it was.

That is a great pic, and i bet that was a great course!!

If I post a pic with Bank, do i get second place? ;-)

Whoooa - an Arms Race (run for cover)

LOL!! I am not trying to start an arms war here!!

However I think if one started to look and inquire, one would be surprised how many Canadian's take training with firearms very seriously, and spend a good sum of their hard earn dollars to further their knowledge and proficiency with defensive style firearms. Further the demand for this type of instruction is increasing!! This is good news, as this increased demand has made it worth while for top tier instructors to come to Canada.

One other thing needs to also be recognized, is that these instructors would not come here, were it not for the tireless and some times herculean efforts of those facilitate and organize the venues for these course. The next time you take a course, make sure that you not only express your appreciation to the instructors, but also to those who have the less glamorous task or organizing and running these courses.

Just food for thought

regards

AbH

That's totally true...I have been very lucky to get the access to high-level instruction that I've had and it's been entirely due to the efforts of others (Slavex for one).

I just show up to courses. Other people do the hard work of organizing the class and booking the instructor and arranging the facility and so on...not to mention the long process of building up the contacts and connections to even be in the position to get the instructors and facilities and so on.

OTOH I do provide snappy commentary, classy hat selection and, of course, rather rakish sideburns...so maybe I am the real hero here.
