Hi everyone,

I'm totally new to the long range precision sport, I recently landed a pretty sweet deal on a savage 10 fcp McMillan. The guys at Wanstalls recommend I go have the rifle bedded.

First off I have read the articles on the McMillan website that their stocks do not really need pillar bedding but people decide to do it anyway. I know that pillar bedding is to prevent the stock from being crushed between the action and the bottom metal and doesn't necessarily affect accuracy. So your suggestions?

Secondly, my main question is who do you guys recommend I go to for a proper bedding job. I'm pretty sure good smith's have long turnaround times and I don't mind waiting. I'm located in Vancouver, BC

Anyway thanks for the advice in advance

Black rose tactical out in Maple Ridge has super fast turn around. Hes also a dealer of macmillian stocks I'm sure he can hook you up relatively quickly. I had dropped off my bolt to have a knob threaded on, dropped off on sunday said I'll pick up next weekend then realized monday I wanted to shoot at a match on the island. He had my bolt already done, I was able to pick up wednesday.

Bedding a rifle is not a difficult thing to do. Patience and preparation is your best friend!! Lots of video's online that show the process quite well. Don't skimp on the bedding material either. Use way more than you think you will need and let it ooze out. Take your time cleaning it as it settles down (it will continue to ooze for about an hour depending on the material you use). Let it sit for a few days then remove and enjoy your handy work. Again 'patience' is key!!
I have done a few. First one I tried to use 'just enough' material and ended up having to do it again. Second one I didn't spend enough time with a release agent. I got lucky and was able to re-do that one too. Third one turned out really nice as I learned my lessons.
Did I mention patience and preparation are key:cheers:
