Hello,

Question 1, If you have your Remington action trued, including the treading cleaned up. Can the original barrel be reinstalled?

Question 2, Can a .260 Rem chamber be reamed to a .308 win?

Thanks

1. No, unless the shank is cut off and rethreaded.
2. A .260 has a .264" groove diameter, .308 is .308. The bodies are the same, the neck and bullet diameters are different. So no, a .260 chamber cannot be reamed to .308 - unless you wanted to try to squirt a .308 bullet through a .264 bore.

I true 700 actions and the thread is 'cleaned' up and original 700 barrels will fit the action fine. (I don't know why you would bother with a factory barrel when match quality barrels are available) I also know of a gunsmith (USA) cutting the threads 10 thou over standard and factory barrels will still fit. Contrary to what some people think, a loose thread fit when torqued tight will line up fine if the action is true and the barrel threads true.... the 60 degree threads center themselves... A snug fit thread does not offer any accuracy benefit. I much prefer a loose fit that screws on easily by hand.
