Gunsmiths that you recommend

Here is ARWEN ACE- He is a contributing gunsmith on here, so no worries with the hotlinks to him. His site is in his sigline.

Also i would recommend gunnar from Armco, he is also an awesome pistol smith!
His link is at the top of the page.

X2 for Casey. You won't find a more knowledgable Gun guy. He is easy to deal with and extremely knowledgable about any type of firearm. I am almost positive that he has hundreds of firearm schematic diagrams committed to memory along with ones that have yet to be made.

Peter Riedel operating as Rusty Wood, interior BC

One of the guys I work with recommended Peter as he has had work done including hot blueing and although "rough condition" when sent to him they came back factory new. I talked to Peter about my needs (crowning, trigger work and hot blueing) and he agreed to take 3 l pieces but advised since it was busy season (August 09) he wouldn't get to them until October.

Fast forward to November 3rd 09 I get a postal advice of a scheduled delivery for November 6th.
My son texted me at work to say the rifles have arrived and I asked how do they look. he replied "FANTASTIC".

The first rifle was a custom ZKK which I believe the previous owner tried to finish himself after having it built and chambered by a very competent gunsmith in the mid 60's. If it had ever been blued it must have been with that bottled stuff for "rough" was an understatement. There were at least 3-4 colors including rust when I sent it. Came back factory new black blueing.
11 point target crown was crisp and smooth and all parts including screws and bolts had been blued. My pet peeve is people who take a rifle or shotgun apart and using the wrong screw driver ruin the slot of the bolt or screw. All bolts and screws had been reslotted prior to blueing.
Second piece was an original condition 1940's Belgium Browning (FN). It needed blueing badly but rather than screw up bolts and screws trying to take it apart I let Peter disassemble it prior to sending it to his friend for hot blueing. Came back factory polished black/blue condition and all parts that were not blued were polished to a high lustre whether steel or brass.

Third was Gustaf Custom Deluxe I acquired earlier this year in great shape but I could not deal with the factory trigger pull at 5 + pounds.
It came back with a consistent 2.5 pound trigger pull.
I was very pleased with both the work and realistic prices for the work.

dlask arms

josef dlask is the ONLY gunsmith I trust to do any kind of work in the lower mainland Vancouver area.

the rest are all butchers and slimebags trying to sell you junk parts and asume you have no knowledge of firearms so they'll straight lie right to your face and tell you the travel adjustment screw on your trigger adjusts the pull weight on your 1911.

I ordered a recoil spring and was offered to be charged $50 to install it by the same gunsmith. actually i don't even think he qualifies as a gunsmith. maybe a butcher. I've seen some of his work with a dremel and JB weld

I've also seen some machining that he did on some 1911's that he completely butchered and turned into garbage.

I am a tool and die maker / machinist and the work he did was disgusting and pathetic. someone should teach him what a dial indicator is and how to use measuring tools because it looks to me that he just eyeballs everything for straightness and parallel. his measurements are off by up to .050"

another gunsmith mentioned on this thread which is no longer a gun shop but turned into an indoor shooting range is another butcher, and an arrogant one at that. he's done some crappy work on an IPSC gun for a buddy of mine and thinks he's a legend in his own time

other gunsmiths are known to sell you unknown parts in ed brown or wilson combat packaging and try to pass it off. some of the parts are clearly USED parts placed in new packaging. slimebags

A more local Smith?

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

Living in NS, can anyone recommend someone here? After the passing of Mr Steve Gullon of Valhalla Enterprises, my neighbor and second father of almost 30 years, I find it hard to find anyone else I'd trust. I have had work done by (very good work I may add) Mr Sam Adams. Are there any other names out there you can recommend?

Gordon Whitman, Blue Mountain Sports, Browns Flat, New Brunswick.

He does fantastic work.
Reserving a spot for my .02¢.
My .02¢ worth.
Just picked my rifle up today. Haven't tried it out yet as I have some wood working to do on the stock.
However it looks great. He did a fantastic job turning the bolt handle. It is scalloped to clear the scope and is also bent back towards the stock a bit.
The barrel looks like it came from the factory.

Gordon took a lot of time explaining what he did, why he did it and gave me advice on breaking in the barrel.
I also received an education on the internal workings of scopes. :)
My apologies to him for being so impatient.

Ive had Dave at Cape Guns fit a barrel/comp on my IPSC gun,did a great job with a reasonable waiting time.Would definitely recommend him.
Gunnar at ARMCO also does good work, but be prepared to wait.(last small job that I had him do took in excess of 6 months)
Ive also had DLASK do work for me,happy with them as well, just try to make sure that Joe does the work himself.

Gunsmith

Hi, guys, great thread - everybody needs a good gunsmith here and there. I am in a need of a good gunsmith right now, but I don't want to ship the firearms. I need to find one in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario. The work I need done is on a 1911 pistol and on a Colt AR-15. If you know somebody and can vouch for the quality of work, please post or send the contact info. The email is albog@rogers.com

Appreciate this.

Jason Spencer, business name "Gunco " in Ottawa. Apprenticed under George Pohle a master gunsmith from Germany.
