Well I know I am going to get all kinds of moaning of "Too pricey" or " I can build one for cheaper" but the hell with it. Lets be clear, the gun shoots way better than I do, and its not designed to be a benchrest gun, this puppy was designed to be carried and then shoot. It does prove that you don't need a thick barrel to be accurate as this one is skinny. Its capable of 1/4MOA group at 200 yds, but unfortunately my skills prevent me from doing it consistently. Reminds me of my golf game. Anyways a friend and I decided to head out and stretch its legs. After piddling around at 470 and then 690 I realized I had no accounted for spin drift, so we made a few adjustments. The circle is 3" in diameter.
3 shot group at 200 yds
470 yds
690 yds. the shots at the far right were taken from our 1200 yd position so that distance was actually 890 yds
The black dots are where we were shooting from. Roughly 900, 1200 and 1400 and its a view from our farthest target
The blue circles were 900 and 1200 yds(even though it says 1200 for both), Then we decided to try 1400. That's all the shots that are not circled. I clearly had reached my limit and the barrel was getting pretty hot in the sun.
One thing to note is that it doesn't like getting dirty. After 30 shots it wants to be cleaned or its accuracy starts to suffer. Gave the gun a clean and decided to try again. My buddy also has Gunwerks 6.5 mm that he had just cleaned and decided it needed to be shot after watching me floundering around at 1400. His shots are the ones in purple. he started high (hit the metal each time)and on the 4th shot he got a bulls eye. That's a 3" white circle he hit from 1400 yds. WTF????? Literally cleaned his gun and pulls that off and I thought I was doing pretty good. LOL. Their motto is 1000 yds right out of the box and its definitely true, or in this case, pulled out of the case, cleaned it and then he hits 1400. That's sick.
One thing that I love is that you range it with that BR2 range finder and dial it in on the turret(its in yardage and MOA) and you are set. The elevation is perfect but then you just have to figure out the wind.
This rascal weighs in under 10 lbs including that Nightforce scope, and has hardly any kick with that muzzle brake. Would I buy it again? I look at it this way. Some guys just want a rifle to hunt with and don't need the accuracy for long shots. Some guys want the accuracy but want to build it them selves . All good in my books. Me, I want a frickin accurate gun(that doesn't weigh 15 lbs) that if I see an elk at 700 yds I can shoot it with confidence. The customer service from both Grouse River and Gunwerks themselves has been awesome. Actually got emails from Gunwerks owner helping me develop hand loads for the 7mm. Im happy.
