ok, here we go- the m14 is NOT , by any stretch of the imagination , a MACHINE GUN- it is a SELECT FIRE SEMI- AUTOMATIC RIFLE, - all m14s left the factory as SEMI-AUTOMATIC with a cap over the selector switch and a small bag of parts attached to the trigger guard - in the bag was a lever, spring, and a pin- when it reached the BRIGADE , the bag WAS REMOVED and kept in storage and the rifle was ISSUED AS A SEMIAUTO - it was on the orders of the brigade commander, that the bag was issued and installed by the brigade armourer- when the rifle was surplussed , the bags were surplussed as well- it was the BATF that designated the m14 a machinegun, , a blanket designation without provision for the non-bagged m14s-moreover, the ones in Canada came from Israel and ALL had their roller bearings and selector switches ground and capped BEFORE being imported- ie there is no way you can make a class 3 rifle from an m14 imported legally into Canada- our STUPID liberal government merely followed the batf and ruled the m14 a converted auto, when in fact , it's a semiauto converted to semi-auto
