I just assembled my temporary upper, temporary because eventually I'll get some parts from buddy, one of them an upper receiver. For the time being I used an extra Norinco Receiver I had collecting dust. Unfortunately when I went to torque the barrel nut it was pretty clear that it wasn't going to be a nice gentle 60 ft/lbs to line everything up, but a good twist with the hand did. Since I'm using a Free Float Handguard that clamps on to the barrel nut I figured if I bridge the upper and the Handguard with a Riser it will prevent the Handguard from rotating and therefore the barrel nut from coming loose. I actually doubt I'll get the chance to shoot it till I get the other Receiver, but if I do I intend to!

What do you think, am I right in assuming that the barrel nut isn't going anywhere?

You'll likely know if it is wanting to back off if you get binding between the carrier key and the gas tube.
I bet it doesn't go anywhere.

Thanks, for the confidence boost, I didn't think it would be a problem, but the right second opinion is nice to have.

Anyone know of another other source of Nut shims, TNA is out of stock.

I've been as low as somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 ft/lbs which is 'snug' and that is about it. Didn't see any issues.

Your front sight looks like it’s the wrong height for the rear. The one you’re using is for a gas block that is lower than the receiver rail like on a DPMS Orical.

Hahaha, good eye, I didn't realize it was higher until I put my eye to the rear sight and found I had to screw my cheek into the stock to get a sight picture. I just got them, pretty sure the guy that sold them to me didn't realize it, and they are such good quality I'm not complaining. I just moved the riser back so it's just clamping the Handguard by a half inch, and put the rear on that, It's just a tiny bit high now.

You can make your own from aluminum cans. TNA is my go to for things like that, but Colonel Mustard may have some ( not sure).

It's muzzle widgets you gotta be careful with. I've seen a few that were on 'hand tight' that unscrewed themselves and fell off in between shots *yikes*

Barrel nut, youll be fine. Your accuracy will fall off long before anything bad happens as long as you're even remotely snug.
