Handgun advice

ppq great gun, PPQ M2 Navy, Q4, Q5 even better - or even a P99AS.....
buy a Girsan MC28 - cheap right now. Buy a Tara even cheaper. Worry about the higher end guns later. And since you own a Tok, buy a Norinco Np762 - more fun and like a SIG but with the heaviest DA trigger pull in the world (but once you actually learn to shoot it you will like it even more)

NP762 is cheap enough I might get that too I do really like the Tokarev cartridge it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot.

If you like surplus pistols I'd go with either a police surplus Beretta 92 or Walther P1/P38. They are both around the $800 mark tax-in.

Can’t go wrong with a Glock 19/17.
Very easy to work on and customize.
Glocks aren’t for everyone but I would suggest getting one as you can pick up a used one for a decent price.

Make sure you try a glock. The handle angle is different than other handguns and some find it uncomfortable.

Dont believe the cz 75 hype.

Do get the beretta 92, the do it all gun

Another vote here for the Beretta 92FS (or current version). Reliable, easy to clean, accurate, and heavy. I like heavy metal guns, not polymer guns. YMMV

And it's in your price range.

If you like a reliable, well made, accurate and cheap to feed handgun don't forget to look at Ruger's.

I have a Mark III Hunter and it's a terrific little handgun. I've literally put thousands of rounds through it and saved a lot of $$$ over what it costs to feed my 1911 .45 ACP.

You can buy a device that loads the magazines quick and easy (I own one)

They're not plastic and they feel real good in your hand and they're extremely accurate. I have a lot of fun with dinger targets at 25 yards out at my range.

here is something I'll bet you never thought of......a High point.
Life Time Warranty ya know...............................

See if you can find one of the IMI Jericho 941F surplus guns that were around before Christmas. I got one from Bullseye London for $450. It’s a nice gun to shoot, steel frame, good trigger and CZ 75 mags fit it. Mine showed a fair bit of holster wear but the barrel and feed ramp show very little wear.

I bought one new in .40 S & W; it is a joy to shoot!

Same dilemma as you have and I have made all the wrong choices so far. I kept looking for the Cool Factor when I should have tried them in my hand. Very expensive if you buy a firearm that feels wrong in the "hand". I am going to the TACCOM show in September and try as many as I can get to touch.. Hopefully that will solve the dilemma. Also at the range most members will let you try their firearms. The caveat here is that they have made upgrades that you will not get. There are so many pistols out there and trying to find the right one is hard. I must admit one member let me try their Shadow 2 and oh that felt so good. The price tag however was a killer..

Good luck and take your time to make the right decision.

What exactly does Surplus mean regarding pistols or revolvers ? Are they previously used ?
Leavenworth

Yes and no.

They are generally service pistols from MIL/LE agencies that have seen duty and/or wear. Sometimes you can find service issue arms that were never issued and still in factory packing grease. More often then naught a dealer/distributer has bought a bulk amount and they can be had for decent prices.

The only draw back is they are sold "as is" and you don't have the luxury of picking a particular unit. That said, some of the past 92's or 226's offered on here were hidden gems and with a little bit of elbow grease turned into fine shooters at a great price for a lot of members on here.
