Smith Wesson MP 9 2.0 is a great gun for the entry level price point. Then I’d say go Glock from there. After that Sig, Beretta, CZ, Walther any of the high end European gun manufacturers.

All of these are good suggestions but I don't understand why you want to buy a handgun without being able to consistently hit what you are aiming at.

Your original question also suggests that you are looking for something for casual plinking. A decent used 22 is inexpensive, most are more accurate than even skilled shooters and ammo is available everywhere. $800 can get you a good used pistol (Ruger, Buckmark, High Standard etc) and over 3000 rds of ammo. That was with a 5 min search of Canadian retailers. Two of my six pistols are 22s and I couldn't imagine being without either one.
Practice, get some good training/coaching and enjoy hitting what you are actually aiming at. I firmly believe that every handgun (or rifle) collection needs at least one rimfire to build and maintain your skills and to mentor new shooters.
Get a 22 and you will never regret it.

It was a bit of being humble on my part I'm actually quite good with my M57 (you know what they say about the man with only one gun) my only reason for wanting a different pistol is to have something that uses ammo I don't have to mail order or drive several hours to pick up. I had considered a .22 but I'm a rifle guy at heart and need some recoil and noise to keep it interesting and the rimfire pistols just don't do anything for me. I did buy the PPQ just waiting on the government to do its part...oh and then wait for the range to open back up.
Fair enough. I fully understand the fun that comes from full sized centerfire pistols. Although I have not personally handled the PPQ, from all that I have heard, its a fine gun. Still, don't discount the value of a 22. Years ago when my local club would have to shut down in the winter, we turned to training indoors with air guns, we quickly realized that the noise and recoil of 9mm would cover up some bad habits and lower our expectations. In the end, most of us ended up with better scores in the spring after our "casual" practice over the winter.
