Handgun Hunting; If you could, what would you use?

my gp100 but I would start reloading 357mag and have to shoot more rounds before I was confident I could make a clean kill.

Something I've recently acquired that would be a good size and handy to pack for Grouse, a 4" Ruger SP-101 in 22 LR.

And, for big game, A 4" 29 in 44 Mag or the 500 S&W.

TPK, they answered that even if handgun hunting was legal they would hunt with a rifle. I think that's a fair answer. They did not say in any way that you or should not be allowed to hunt with a handgun.

What ever, A BS post and and BS answer. You know it, I know it, they know it. Just stirring up the water in a thread they have no interest in .. so why bother? The OP was in no way soliciting that type of input, the question is easily understood as what handgun would you hunt with if you could use one for hunting. Play semantics and pick at the meaning and interpretation all you want, it's still just a couple guys using someones thread to soap box their narrow views. If they had the guts, they should start a thread "Why you shouldn't use a handgun to hunt?" and see where it goes.

I would probably only use it for small game or the unfortunate case of needing a finishing shot up close (Its better to have and not need, then need and not have). So, My 9mm pistol with Hollow points would see use along side whatever rifle I decide to use.

Until the Angels Fall I won't quote your post and force anyone to see your post twice.

That is very uncalled for, Win64 didn't say we shouldn't hunt with a handgun, he simply stated that if handgun hunting was legal, he would still hunt with a rifle.

I'm quite certain at times I would as well, and other times I'd use and xp-100 in .308 or maybe a .44mag in a revolver, and I'd always carry a .22 pistol of some sort for small game.

Oh no he thinks you shouldn't even own a handgun, AR or anything modern, letalone hunt with one!!!...just ask him

*Ignoring non thread related, topic derailing, odd comments posted by people that have nothing better to do then spoil others fun *

Onwards with this great thread!!

My 9.5" Ruger Super Redhawk with some Nosler 240gr Partition HP or 300gr JHP :)
OR my S&W 610 with Hornady 200gr XTP's ;)

That's a great example of how handy a side arm would be when hunting. How many people have shot a Moose/Deer/Elk etc. and had it down but not dead. Get up close and try to aim a scoped rifle at the head is harder than one would think and often ends with multiple shots and meat loss due to poor placed shots. A hand gun would work great.

Agreed.....

I'd Use James Bond's cell phone gun. The cellphone that shoots .22's. That way the grouse or rabbit wouldn't see it coming. He'd think I was making a call.

(This is not a serious post. Im not trying to stir the pot on handgun hunting.(it was ment for amusement))

I think it's funny, and would think it was more funny if you didn't' add a qualifier...:)

Yes, if they had truly read some ambiguity into the question and honestly were replying that even though they could use a handgun, they would use a rifle, then they would have also said "I would use a 45/70 for up close and personal.", or "I like to take longer shots with my .308 Norma Mag loaded with 200 grn Barnse ###." or something, and actually answered the "What would you use?" part of the question rather than just type the glib response "A rifle" followed by "I agree".
