I do, did, and done.:) often we are our own worst enemy. I would love to hunt with a handgun. Likely more because I cant currently than any over and above merits a handgun has over a rifle or shotgun in the bush.

to answer your in red question, no it does not float my boat, but yes, as a precaution/insurance/buckup/what ever excuse I need for a cool factor to be practical.
I would love to give it a try but since I dont have a chance, Ill stand next to you guys, and hold a sign and sign petitions and what not, just so maybe one day I can strap a Browning HP, or a 1911 to my belt as I leave my truck in the woods

Duffy---I think you nailed it with that comment!!!!

The one thing I've learned in my time is change. I've been a hunter , silhoutte shooter, trap shooter and owned a few handguns. Now I'm back to hand guns again. Never hunted with the pointd sticks but always stuck up for um like a brother should. If we could just all get our head around the fact that we're sportsman or outdoors people or what ever it sure would help.----Cowboy
 
would be great to be able to pack a magnum handgun for protection well quading or as a great backup for the bowhunter or a .22 for grouse well walking and hunting big game
 
oh i dont know maybe the guy shooting big game with a sks and watching them suffer just to prove it will kill, or the guy that cant decide if a 45/70 will kill a bear, or the guys that get grizzly lehs and then ask how to hunt them.

YES I would love to hunt with a handgun, YES I know how to use them rather well and YES I think it would be great but until people think before they act I KNOW it would be better off left the way it is to save alot of greef and wounded animals, hell go look at the other handgun hunting thread LMAO the comment alot of US hunters us revolvers but not to many pistols???????????????? nuff said

Well, then I go back to what I said in one of my previous posts, specifically # 28. :slap:"Nuff said".
 
I have an ATC which allows me to carry handguns for the defense of my life and the lives of others when I am in remote wilderness areas of BC/Alberta.

Before I am issued a carry permit I have to prove that I am proficient in the use of handguns.

I feel that handgun hunting is a totally viable means of hunting that is the same as using any other tool for hunting all that needs to be done is that if you want to use a handgun for hunting than you have to pass a proficiency test.

In other words handgun hunting should most definately be allowed but the only people that can use this method have to prove that they are proficient first.

Those of you that are anti handgun hunting I see you as part of the problem not the solution...

My example is many people shouldn't even be allowed to hunt with a rifle or even a shotgun because they never take the time to be proficient in those tools either.
 
Hell you don't even need to take a safety course and get a licence to hunt with a bow. That right there is an example of a limited range, limited energy tool that is widely accepted for hunting. Why are people against handguns?

I would take whatever courses/training needed to be able to legally hunt with handguns.

After we are allowed to handgun hunt I will then fight to get the training requirements removed...

Here's the bonus for me...

I have already taken/done all the required proficiency tests to legally carry handguns for defense in remote areas so it is a easy step for me to take to get into handgun hunting.
 
Flintlock handgun could be allowed first for handgun hunting. They don't look "evil"as much as others handguns. Who would care of single shot black powder handguns beeing used in the woods? I think they look harmless for most of the population. The long gun version don't even require a license for owning!



We should work from the "less evil" in first, and going up in the "evilness scale" after a couple of years

As much as I loathe to play politics, gettign handgun hunting allowed would probbaly require agreeing to some sort of BS "handgun hunting" course. At least it woudl be a step in the right direction...
 
What is often forgotten is that we had handgun in Canada, it was taken away for no good reasons in the early 70's I believe, but we did indeed have it right here in Canada. So it would be a push to re-instate handgun hunting, not to allow us to do something that we have never done before. Given that we "had" it, is it a stretch to assume there are stats/records on how many people did, were there problems etc. I'm just not sure if that data would still be relevent today considering the increase in power and accuracy with some of these newer guns. One thing is certain, no one can say that power and accuracy would be an issue with handgun hunting today IF you choose the right gun for the game, are proficient in it's use, and realistic in it's effective range .... the same things that apply to rifle or bow hunting.
 
Hey, Joe, I'm sure I've seen you bang that 300 yd gong at the range with a Thompson Contender round. Can't remember if you were blindfolded or not though.:D
