Handgun Hunting (positive posts only. NO #####ing!)

Foxer, who died and made you God? I used to admire your effort for the firearms community, not a lot more than many others but none the less you've showed up a lot.

But it appears its gone to your head bud. We don't need you to tell us how it must be. Can't you see that?

On the other thread you posted that you had made up your mind and you will not support hand gun hunting. I honestly ask what the #### is your purpose in this discussion?

JEEZ, don't encourage him!! It'll give him the excuse to climb back up on his self constructed pedestal of devine martyrdom. The self-righteous implied attitude of, "well, I understand, but let's do it my way, then we'll both know it's right" exhibits all the characteristics of a new millennium 'Techno Weenie'! For him, it'll never sink in if it hasn't by now. :( Let's leave him be to wallow. We've got better things to do than to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

Attempt at a positive reply to handgun hunting ideas

I hope I'm not repeating anything someone else has said here... but here's a thought I just had regarding how to get this moving.....

In any other facet of life, whenever the government takes away a freedom there has to be a reason. A valid reason. (I know I know, they rarely if ever actually have one but bear with me)
You have to go after the fact that there is no valid reason. "Standard" or "normal" Hunting is firing a projectile out of a firearm (or bow but lets ignore them here) to kill a target. Makes no difference what the barrel length is.
Why is handgun hunting banned. Make them answer that question. Educating the people who flinch at the word 'handgun' might be a necessary prerequisite unfortunately. If you use a .44 magnum for example: Same projectile, same cartridge. I know personally I can fire my .22 handgun better than my .22 rifle. Didn't used to be that way, but I practice it more. Both have scopes. Both originally were iron sighted. In fact, they're both made by the same company, fire the same projectile from the same cartridge, have the same capacity magazines etc. Any handgun useful for hunting obviously is not going to be 'concealable' in your pant pocket without looking like longdongsilver with a raging woody and we'd probably still have to ask permission (ATT) to go out, so what's their problem?
Step one, don't accept the basis for which the right has been denied. None of us do- I know that, but we gotta explain to them why. "That rule is ####in stupid" just doesn't work. Obviously.
The same rules for minimum caliber can still apply. All safety rules still apply. Heck if they think we're gonna be missing cuz handguns are 'harder to shoot well', go ahead and set up practical tests. You have to prove you can drive a car (keep the smart remarks to yourselves) so that could be done easily... qualifications at the range as scored by your already-government-qualified RSO should suffice. Start it out as a pilot project... rats, squirrels, pidgeons on the farm? They could control the places and spaces with an existing program (ATTs) so again there's nothing for them to worry about. Using the ATT system, no one can walk down Yonge street and say 'Im goin hunting'...

Make them answer simple, politely stated questions. Publish their answers.

Personally by the looks of the holes in the roof at most ranges I've been to I don't think a lot of people should have cart blanche rights to do as they wish with handguns... but if farmer Bob wants to toss an old high standard in the cab of the tractor for a badger or two I hate to think some commie schmuck driving down the highway might see him taking a shot and squeal him to the Feds... as it is he's breaking quite a few laws with very serious implications and that just isn't right. Sorry, started to rant there a bit.
Thoughts?

Hey - disagree and say 'i think there's a better way' then - but if you're going to disagree, have a reason better than "my imagniary friend says...." have some damn proof or at LEAST have looked into it.

But sorry - claiming that the fact elmer keith shot an animal at 400 yards with a 41 or whatever is proof that handguns are good for hunting is NOT offering anything intelligent.

On the other thread you posted that you had made up your mind and you will not support hand gun hunting. I honestly ask what the f**k is your purpose in this discussion?

What the #### is it to you? I'll participate in whatever conversation I want.

You got some damn arrogance - you criticize me for commenting on support for handgun hunting in a thread about support for handgun hunting, and now you figure you have a right to question what threads i post in? Are you SURE you're not a liberal?

And if i want your respect, i'll just walk around agreeing with everything you say... that seems to be your definition of the word. In the meantime - How about telling us all about your efforts to date to bring handgun hunting into reality? Share with us all the people you've recently spoken to in the gov't, or your extensive experience working with the current cpc. Maybe share some of the legal cases you've been looking over and your thoughts on legal avenues. Maybe brief us on some of the conversations you've had about the subject with our shooting orgs, and lobby groups.

see - i really actually did my homework on the subject, over a period of several months. So - when i say 'this is the problem you're going to hear a lot about handgun hunting' or 'the federal level is the first place we have to make some headway', i know a little about what i'm talking about. You can suggest another way, or you can think of a better solution - but you can't tell me I'm wrong unless you've actually taken the time to look at it.

The only reason you don't like what I'm saying is you don't like what you're hearing - not because it's not true. IF all it takes to lose your 'respect' is to tell the truth after looking into something despite the fact you wanted the world to be different, then your respect wasn't worth a hill of beans to begin with.

And if you actually THOUGHT about it - you'd see i didn't say one thing 'negative' about our chances - only that there are some issues and we'll have to work to overcome them (and laid out how.)

But hey - if you think I'm wrong, it's easy to prove it. Just announce to all the legions of hunters out there who you are certain are chomping at the bit to reach into their pocketbooks and support the fight that elmer Keith kills elk at 400 yards with handguns and so can they if they get involved now.

If you get thousands rallying to your cause, you were right. If you don't, chances are I was.

Johnn - you're a perfect example of the kind of person most hunters DON'T want to see in the woods with a pistol.

Why is handgun hunting banned. Make them answer that question.

Gunny - what you say makes perfect sense in a reasonable world. However, in a court of law (which is about the only place that argument means anything) we've never been able to successfully use it in the past to win a case.

When tootall started this thread he requested "positive comments only" to seperate it from the other one that flew off the rails All the whining and obvious ##### envy vis a vis Elmer Keith should be on the other thread, gosh! For the record, Mr Keith invented the 357mag and the 44mag and promoted their sporting use.

HAHAHAHAHA! I new I'd come over here and see a bunch of little boys bi*ch slapping each other. Way to go. You know something Foxer, there are some of us - 2 is my count so far - that actually understand the points you try to raise, and I'll bet that if I were to sit down with you personally, you'd likely be able to swing my vote. Most of these half wits just don't get it. If there is one person who could actually get something done, it would be you. But instead of picking your brain for ideas to change the current laws (after all, you are versed in the political arena) they reduce themselves to name calling. I have to ask, do you still want to give these ignorant people hand guns?....NOT ME. I think all they need is a spanking.

Careful not to accidently spank foxer or there will be another judgement and then be two of us most hunters won't want to "see in the woods with a pistol".

Beacuse we are not allowed to bit*ch remember? However, from what I've read name calling is OK...Alright, let's go! I'll bring the Coors!
