Hunting is a valid sport. Hunting with ANY tool is valid.

It is not about the tool or rather it should not be. Government impediments to firearm ownership have us attacking each other over small points and details while the obvious is forgotten about: firearm RIGHTS

All hunting is good and the tool to use is determined by the hunter's personal style of hunting and choice of firearm. Otherwise government would lay down the law and say only "smoothbore musket" as in Turkey.

Keep bickering and denying the validity of one type of firearm versus another and Canadians will find themselves in the same situation of Turkey.

Safety during hunting is always paramount. Pistols are no more dangerous than any other weapon. Let's not fall into the ploy of the government and anti-firearm groups.

So, we must stand united or fall divided. That is as true today as it was when man was new to the Earth.

..........they do this now. My folks live in a shotgun and bow only zone.

At what point does this start to look f***ing ridiculous? I have jumped through hoop after hoop and paid hundreds of $$$ and days of my valuable time to satisfy the government's apparently bottomless desire to keep me from owning and firing a handgun. I have met all of these requirements, and because I'm a grown up so I'll go out and practice my shooting until I can make an ethical shot in the field. Guys with muzzleloaders and bows are free to roam the woods, wounding game with their 'primitive' weapons, so from the legislative standpoint it's not an issue of humane hunting. So how is it that the government feels they can get away with directly and grossly violating our rights as handgun owners?

Your hard earned money and valuable time were spent in filtering out certain "undesirables" types that should not own handguns. Having gone through all the hoops is unfortuneately a necessity of the current society in which we live in. As a lawful gun owner, you should be proud of it and work to maintain the right that you have so far and enjoy shooting your handgun as it is. The question never was concerning the ownership of handguns by lawful citizens. If that ever came to debate, I would stand beside you to maintain that right. Standing against handgun hunting does not necessarily equate standing against handgun ownership by law-abbiding citizens, period, I wish you guys could get that through your heads.

I tell ya, if the poutine weren't so damned good, I'd have to think about moving back to the 'states
Ok....don't let the door hit you in the you arse :D :D :D

................I agree with Gitrdun. I am quite comfortable with the handgun folks having to use an approved range and belong to a club. I am not comfortable with this packin in the bush thing yet.

Handgun hunting would be nice, but this is CANADA!
Not a chance of that ever happening, at least not until hell freezes over!

1) - this DID happen in canada and was allowed until just a few decades ago.

2) - you're right, this is Canada. Not france. So quit acting like a cheese-eating surrender monkey. If you want something, fight for it and you can get it. If you want to quit something, try smoking.

Win94 - i think many many reasons have been given for handgun hunting (there are 2 threads on the go, the other one has a whole ream of 'em if you're interested), so i'm not sure it's fair to say that 'no pro reasons' have been put forward.

A lot of good #### used to happen in Canada only a few decades ago...hanging murderers & molesters for one. (two)

I'll go along with you're second statement too, pick a side.

A perfectly acceptable deer cartridge within it's limitations.

And WHAT would be wrong with someone using it in a barrel that a couple inches shorter than is in common use right now? Hmmmmm?;)
