Handgun Hunting

hand gun hunting

I do not know of any right now. There would be a season of the Gov would give ATT to us. Hunting season was only droped because It is not allowed for us to care. I remember hunting with my uncles 22 when I was a kid

It would be interesting to see if there could be a compromise. People pay an extra "tax" for using a handgun for hunting season. The government gets more money, the hunters are happy.

I'm pretty sure none of the parties would be down with that. They all get scared when any mentioning of loosening handgun laws.

I for one would be vehemently against an extra fee for something that should be legal anyways......the government will collect more money in taxes when people go out and buy a specific handgun for hunting, and other related equipment.

Agreed. I'd love to have a .22 hand gun on my belt while deer hunting. I see no problem with it. like a previously poster said it's even safer, less range.

"Organize" ?

Well what was it ....ummmm ...6 house wives shoved Bill C-68 up the ass's of about 3 million law abiding firearms owners the last time the words "We gotta get organized " was tossed about.

Good luck !

Well obviously we all would rather not pay anything extra to hunt with a handgun. But if it came down to it, would you rather not have a chance in hell or pay $10 or $20 a year to do it? Do you think guys in the States think it's cool paying for silencers?

Then why even bring it up?

Of course I would, I would just be vehemently opposed to anyone trying to bargain in this manner. Just like I don't think someone should have to pay the OFAH to take and hunt Turkey's......absolute money grabbing crap!

I am sure none of them think it is "cool", and I am sure they are quite upset that they have to pay for something that should be free!

Earlier this year AFGA (Alberta Fish & Game Association) passed a resolution in favour of restoring handgun hunting. I sent them an email last week asking about an update to this and have not received any response at this point. This week they get a phone call.

The problem is a catch 22. The feds won't make handgun hunting legal again because none of the provinces allow handgun hunting in their game regs. None of the provinces will allow handgun hunting in their regs because the feds don't allow it. Neither one wants to be the first to budge.

That said, I think it will be far easier to get provincial regs changed and then lobby the feds to make it legal again, while pointing to the availability in the provincial regs. Speaking of federal laws, I have tried to find a specific clause in the CC that makes handgun hunting illegal, but I haven't had any luck to date. Everybody who was into shooting/hunting at that point says that Trudeau made it illegal in 1977 when the FAC came into being, but I can't prove it. If anybody can point me to the part of federal law that expressly prohibits handgun hunting I would appreciate it.

So, it may be as simple as getting provincial regs changed, then pressuring the CFO's to issue ATC's for whatever zone you are hunting in.
