You should EDUCATE YOURSELF about handgun hunting before you open your mouth.;)

I don't hunt yet, but I'm all for having another option available to chose from should I start.
Also, I like the idea of my Government not getting in the way of my choice of hunting tools and of my being responsible enough to understand the advantages and limitations of each of these tools.
 
i would love to sit in my deer stand with my 44mag ruger .and anybody that says a hand guns in no good for hunting does not have a clue . the hunting models are good out past 100 yards with very small groups . DUTCH

+1. If it was only based on necessity we would all be stuck with .22LR and a bolt action 30-06. After all, there is almost nothing in NA that you couldn't hunt with those...

fbeninati, your comment displays ignorance about both guns and hunting. You need to drop the anti rhetoric and learn some reality about hunting and firearms.

If you want to get right down to it, the 'pointless and unnecessary' argument can be made about a lot of things. Like hunting at all, owning a car, getting more than a basic education, etc.

It's pretty much the fastest way to see the end of all our ability to own firearms, because, after all, they are "pointless and unnecessary" too, from the perspective of many.

Now, if you don't want to, I am not gonna try to make you use a handgun, but for gods sake man, don't go showing up to any meetings or writing any letters hauling THAT old saw out, lest your own methods of enjoying the outdoors with a firearm get caught up in the sweep!

Way to chuck other people's interest under the wheels!

I, among many others, would very much like to be able to carry a handgun with me when hunting. Why? Because I want to. I do not (or should not) need a better reason than that.

What I don't get is why someone doesn't push for an ATT to hunt coyotes or ground hogs with an AR. Yes I know it's not a handgun but it seems to be a restricted that could easily be argued in court and would set a precedent for getting an ATT to hunt with a restricted. One more step closer to getting one for a handgun. Many Provinces allow the use of a .223 for Yotes,Why not use an AR? If I had one I'd try it.

Not a bad idea. The Remington R-15 was designed as a hunting gun. Someone probably needs to challenge the law. Anyone with an R-15 care to try?
 
I started a while ago preparing a business plan to submit to my MPP (Ontario) regarding a trial Handgun Hunting Season in Ontario. Regretably the project got sidetracked and has sat uncompleted on my PC. However I think I'll sit down and finish the project for evaluation purposes. Hopefully within a couple of months. My MPP is Tim Hudak and he seems quite open to hunting/shooting people.
 
I believe I'll submit it to both CSSA and NFA for comments prior to sending it. I'll probably need help from people here in preparationm. So I hope no one minds the odd PM on this issue.
 
Are we gonna make a yes/no list on what we are gonna try to get permission to hunt with? Meaning can a guy take his 9mm out to shoot at coyotes or gophers? Pack a 1911 as back up on his deer hunts? Or is it gonna be revolvers only .357Mag and up?

A very valid question. I personally, would not hunt big game with anything less than a 357. I would actually prefer the 357 for accuracy reasons over my 44 or 45's.
 
If I was going out "hunting" with only a pistol I'd love to take out my new Blackhawk in .357. I would also like to be able to carry a .22LR pistol when I am out hunting with a rifle, my crossbow or even a larger bore handgun so I could shoot an grouse/rabbits I came apon. And I'd espically like being able to carry ANY handgun for protection on the trails instead of lugging a 12g along.

But wait!!! That last part is common sence...and we should be allowed to carry for protection ANYWHERE...hell I am more worried about being attacked by a person in the city then a bear out in the woods.

Put me on the list of supporters. I'm not sure how I can help at this point other than signing a petition or sending Robins111's letter to my MP as well, but if you think there is something I can do, please feel free to contact me.

Like GunGuy34, I'm not that great at putting together my own letter for my MP. I also don't think it would be a good idea for us to send our own letters given there is a risk they might contain request that are not aligned with the general consensus on this thread.

Maybe we should first come up with a list of what we want, then instruct everybody to include those requests in their letters if/when communicating with government officials/decision makers.
At least that way we are all speaking the same language.

How about a letter validated by the more knowledgeable forum members here and possibly CSSA we can all print, sign and send it to our MPs?
 
I don't know why anyone would want to limit what another person could use to hunt with, although it seems to be the Canadian way. If you must, take a look at what Alaska prescribes or power levels for handguns. Alaska and maybe Montana are the only states that really compares to Canada for hunting purposes.

Bet your ass they will want to make you take one or more courses
I have seen a letter from CFO prior to the firearms act stating handgun hunting was allowed in ON to members in good standing of the old ontario handgun club, was a past president from our gun club who had it and he has passed away.
Take a look at the regs for trappers with atc for trapping here, gun must be locked and boxed every time it is moved on a vehicle(4 wheeler) etc.
