Handgun skeet

I leave civilization and any kind of reliable internet connectivity for a few days and the quiet Skeet/Trap/Sporting forum goes nuts... (ok, all in perspective).

Point 1) Keep it on topic. If you don't like what is being discussed in here, don't post. There is no reason to crap on a topic you may not agree with.
2) Most of us in here are Canadian gun owners and know very well the restrictions in place that would likely make the discussed topic illegal (in Canada).

To answer one of the early questions: I don't know of an NSSA rule which states a minimum overall length or bbl length. That is not to say there isn't one, nor to say there wouldn't be one quickly added if needed should there be a problem. I think it traditionally hasn't been an issue due to the competitive disadvantage.

I would love to shoot at skeet, with a .410 pistol. I'd love to try shooting at clay targets with traditional pistol ammo, or rifle ammo for that matter. I want to know if I'd ever hit anything. I remember seeing a display at the Remington Museum of a shooter who used a rifle to shoot airborn blocks (I think 3"x3") and was very proficient with it.

One of the "old guys" at the club told stories of using a .410 pistol to shoot skeet prior to the days of over-regulation. I think it had a longer than average bbl, and at least gave a sporting chance of hitting a target or two. I've wanted to give it a try ever since I heard the story.

Brad.

A Taurus Judge rebarreled with a .410 7-9" barrel smoothbore and fitted with chokes would be a pretty fun gun to shoot clays with. I would give it a go for sure. :)

I think I understand what the op is trying to get at. (Correct me if I'm wrong). He is trying to find more ways to enjoy using his Circuit Judge.
Why not shoot STATIONARY clays with the 410 at a cowboy action range. This will give you a good idea of the gun's capability and limitations. If you than want to add a dynamic element, why not practice your swing and follow through on a STATIONARY clay? Vary up the distance etc. If that is practical and fun than you may start to consider finding ways of achieving what you proposed in your first post.
Small steps, one at a time

Pretty sure you nailed it. With the extra info that has come to light in this thread, basically, you just outlined my "practical" (with a bunch of helpful hints) route to getting to the end goal, while maintaining a logical order of how to get there. Some of the input and suggestions, helped take the initial thought, to a logical thought process of how to do it. You have just nicely summarized the steps of getting there, in a neat package.

Yeah me too, I could do it at my range in the city too boot. The 100yrd range is rated for up to 50bmg, the mountain is the backstop and the trap house is on the same range.

I admit I didn't read the entire 9 pages however my local club has no restrictions on barrel length as long as it's non restricted.
For skeet anything goes whether it's dual pistol gripped pumps or 8.5" barreled 870 to cut down mad Max guns. I've shot them all and could surprise most ppl with my scores
For a handgun however finding an approved range would be difficult

There was a game called mosquito skeet that was done inside with smooth bore rimfires. I may have spelled it wrong and don't know if it's ever played anymore

When I lived out in the country and needed ways to practice with my double rifle I made a slide that held various sized balls. Even melons. I had it rigged to a foot Petal I could kick to release the ball. It would then slide down and across the ground presenting shooting opportunity. As I got better the objects I used got smaller. When I was hitting tennis balls regularly I added hay bails to block some view
It was fun and helped me shoot that gun faster
I side note is I didn't have to cut much grass there as we used shotguns and rimfires as well

If your club allows shooting targets on the ground this may work for your scatter gun pistol
Best of luck

Strange thread. Guess the video about shooting the 45 first to release the clay, and then shoot a clay with the 410 would be fun. Move to the USA and you can do that too. Oh, except for the past convictions part. I guess no travel to the US is in store. For the OP to infer 25/25 is too easy, or that is the only objective in trap or skeet shows he has little or no idea. Probably hasn't even set foot on a trap field because it's too easy. How about 50/50, 75/75, 100/100? That's difficult enough with a 12 ga. Then move to 20 ga, 28 ga or 410. I have hard enough time getting 25/25 after many thousands of shotshells. Why not try the existing sports instead of putting them down and trying to come up with something new, that is going to be nearly impossible due to CFO and club restrictions.

Why don't you go to the other section, where this is not discussed.

Idea is far from dead. Don't give a crap about your trap, or skeet. Otherwise, I'd be out doing that.

But I'm guessing I would cross paths with the likes of you, the spank, and claybuster, in such a sport. Even more reason to NOT partake.

Once the snow settles in, my crazy, busy season nicely slows down. Then I have more time to pursue this endeavor.

And you are correct. U.S. is definitely a no go country for me. Threat to National Security and all that, kinda makes that an uncomfortable idea.

Working through the hurdles here, as many are pointed out in this thread, is half the fun.

I have looked up a bunch of info, however, on trap and skeet, over the past while, to extend my limited knowledge. Talked to a few people, and watched some instructional video. Yeah, that is never gonna happen. Not to mention I think there is likely a mutual feeling of me wanting to be there and hang out with you and the aforementioned, is about as likely as you wanting to come hang out with me.

I can think of only a few things that could be more fun. Such like smashing my nuts with a hammer repeatedly.

That's too bad. You'd probably learn a lot that you could apply to your new game. I shoot with all types. Blue collar, white collar, ex-military, cops, ex-cops, firemen, tradesmen, contractors, truck drivers, farmers, teachers, labourers. Only thing we have in common is we like to shoot. That, and have an open mind and are willing to learn.

Thank-you! I don't hang out with jail birds and have no interest in shooting with an ex-con who has issues. After severely humiliating him on the range he might get angry and try to shank me in the parking lot.
