I'm looking for a new handgun case. I've seen the ones at wholesale sports in Calgary, but I'd like to see more before I choose.

Anyone have any recommendations?

i use one of these pelican brand cases

pelican case...

buy on ebay.

used and a little scuffed all the better, attracts less attention.

avoid used from a dive shop or scuba diver.
they use them for underwater cameras and the foam may be salty.
or get new foam.

I'd look for a metal briefcase with an empty inside or filled with foam. Perfect for 2-3 pistols and some magazines or you can cut to fit the foam for a nice double pistol stack lots of mags and ammo.
I am looking for something like this.

The local Wal-Mart where I'm at usually stocks foam lined hard plastic pistol cases made by "Plano" for around $5 retail. Seem to be good value for the money...

Pic off the Plano website:

I use such an attache case as well. As many of them are meant to hold laptops, make use of the dividers and get foam and or a minibox for that area to carry your gun(s) and the partitioned area can carry some of your other gear.

fyi, the fact that there's a lock on it eliminates any "stealthiness". people only go through the trouble of locking something if it contains valuables. hence its actually a bigger target for a thief... and once they've seen it, it would only take about 4 seconds to get into that box.

i don't use the same container for storage/transport. this is storage:

this is transport:

its just my notebook case, i take the dividers out and put some foam in. but i did put an abloy cam lock on it, just in case. for some strange reason if a thief got a hold of my firearms during transport, i'd prefer that it took more than a second or two to get into the case.

Yeah... well, it satisfies the law with regard to trasport... So there:p

But hey... Thanks for your expert opinion on crime prevention.

Yeah, I've got this one. Paid about $20 from SIR. I keep all the paperwork in the bottom and a couple of guns on top. Also store about 75 printed 8.5x11 targets in the back of the top foam.

667, just where is this 'local foam store'?

I hear foam might be wildly available at these so called 'foam parties' that these young kids are going to in the city. God knows what they need all that foam for :p :p

Yes, local foam store?

Canadian Tire carries different thicknesses & lengths of foam. Not black but will do the job. To make things stay cleaner then find some old woren out flannel sheets to cover the bottom & top parts.

One of my gun cases can carry 4 handsguns without any sweat. That also means spare mags, tools, & such.

Good idea with the ol' red tool box. Very incognito, theft deterent.

Riiiiggghhht.... like thieves don't steal toolboxes. It may save you some questions should you get stopped for any reason to and from the range.
