Handgun transfer wait times?

Transfer times vary from place to place.....it seems. But imho, it's a two way street. Remember that the buyer has the responsibility to follow up with the CFO and confirm his/her information. Every restricted purchase I've ever done, I've been proactive and called the CFO. Almost immediately after I receive the transfer request reference number, I call and confirm my information. In most cases the transfer is approved in less than 1 day.

My best result was buying a handgun in the morning of a weekday. Then getting the reference number from the store after they initiate the transfer with the CFO. I called the CFO immediately to confirm my information. And within 5 minutes, the transfer was approved and the notice e-mailed to my phone. I then walked out of the store with my new gun. Total time....less than 1 hour.

Again, it has been my experience that being proactive really speeds things up. Even with private sales, doing your part speeds things up.

I almost bought a pistol from ee in ontario but wasnt willing to play the never ending waiting game, so i bought new not much more cash anyhow ill let you know how long it takes im going to do the deal on saturday

If you live in Regina the transfer goes through Saskatchewan CFO not the Ontario CFO, bad call on your part.

Take Care

Im in BC and picked up a glock G19 from a seller in AB. Transfer was done within 24 hours. ATT for seller to ship was issued light ing fast. It ships today!

Make sure you buyers request 'email delivery' of your transfer approval. They always do this for me and it really speeds up the process. No more calling in to check, or waiting for snail mail.

i wish that were the case in ontario. the seller had a transfer reference number for me within 30 minutes of receiving my payment and i called the CFO immediately to complete my end of the transfer but it still took 4 weeks.

I just arranged for 3 transfers. One that I was selling to a buyer in Ontario, one to BC, and one that I bought here in Saskatchewan from a seller in Alberta. Keep in mind that the transfer gets done by the CFO in the BUYERS PROVINCE. In Ontario, the wait time time was almost three weeks, in BC it was 48 hrs, and in Saskatchewan, it was 20 hrs. Why is there such a difference in wait times depending on province? Here is WHY:

Provincial populations
Saskatchewan - 1.13 million
BC - 4.631 million
Ontario - 13.6 million

Working for the federal government, I know that the staffing resources provided to the CFO office is the same throughout provinces. With Ontario having over 3 times the population of BC and 12 times the population of Saskatchewan, it can be rest assured that they are much busier in Ontario as the staffing is the same to deal with the workload, hence the longer wait times. All you can do is be patient, as it does not pay off to be upset or give the CFO office a hard time. Believe it or not, they are doing their jobs, it just takes longer in some provinces due to the workload. What does this mean for me, I am just glad that I live in Saskatchewan :)!
