hard chrome - new pics (tiger maple)

I'm not sure if the haters don't like the snake or if it's the wood itself.

Personlly I love the lighter wood color. And the snake insets are sort of campy which can be good in a playful way. Obviously they are a "love it or hate it" sort of deal though.

The real or fake ivory grips posted by Can-Down are damned sweet looking but in a sort of regal quiet way.

But not to worry. The best part is that grips for a 1911 are like shoes for a girl. There's no reason you can't have a bunch of them and swap them out as the mood changes..... :D

Those basic smooth wood grips would be pretty easy if you've done any wood working at all and can run a few basic hand tools. You just need to find a source of the exotic hardwoods that provide that sort of figure. For example the stuff in your last post looks like it could be a lighter and more red cocobolo although it's usually a little more dark in the red parts.

For your gun I think there's a lot to be said for a more whitish/honey coloured wood to go with the matt chrome. Unless you want the contrast then go with a darker color.
