Hey all

I want to Rebore a 6.5 rem mag to 30 cal and have got a line on a guy(and his son i think?) who do this kind of work in Alberta, rks enterprises

Has anybody dealt with them? Are they legit? Do they do good work?

Would anybody have any email contact info for them? I have a phone number but everytime I tried he can’t hear me. That was part of my concern, if I don’t have reliable communication I’m weary of sending them a gun

Email, LOL, if he is generous enough to accept your work you are going to get a hand written reciept when it is done. Patience, maybe his granddaughter isn't around to run out to the shop and get him.

Did fine work for me. There old school over there.
phone in the morning and drove there that afternoon. Easy peasy 4Me

That old boy is a good chat with when your at the gun shows,
not so much 7-5. Workin man

Anyone have a ballpark for what a rebore costs from these guys? I'm in the market for something bigger than a 30cal, but left-handed hunting rifles in anything bigger than 30cal are rare and often expensive, wondering if there is much to be saved by reboring vs just rebarrelling to turn a 30-06 or 300mag into a 338 or 35cal...

I have swapped a few barrels - after you get the bore re-machined and re-rifled, then will likely have to deal with a re-chamber and re-headspace to the action/ bolt of interest - I think all aspects likely needed to be costed out - to compare versus buying a different factory made rifle. Have never done a "left hand" one, but I do not think left or right handed bolt action makes any difference for barrel or headspace? Likely have to consider barrel finished profile and fit to the existing fore-stock?

I paid $409 all in for a 30-06 to 9.3x62mm rebore from RKS in 2017. This included chambering.

I think you handled mine many years ago, BUM. It was a pre-war, four digit Model 70 in 270 Win.

When I got it, it was so abused and neglected that it appeared hopeless, The bore and chamber were both rusted so bad they looked like old concrete. But, we know better than what first appears.

The rebore completely cleaned up both the bore and the chamber, and the rifle immediately began printing inch and a half groups with the first loads, 286gr Norma Dual Core at a tad over 2400 fps. The rebore demanded the rest of the rifle to be resurrected.

All metal parts were cleaned up with 000 steel wool and automatic transmission fluid, rinsed clean with detergent, then cold blued. Stock was cleaned up with dish soap and hot water, followed with several applications of boiled linseed oil and much elbow grease.

All done and put back together it has been carried many thousand of miles on foot, in airplanes, boats, and snowmobiles. It functions perfectly and not one time ever missed a beat. Could have sold it many times, but it’s still family.

My point in telling the story is that you may have more than what you think, so why not give it a try?

Ted
