Has anyone been denied a restricted firearm transfer because NOT a gunclub member??

Alberta CFO asked me to fax in my membership info before they will approve my first restricted firearm transfer, it was bought from a dealer...The lady on the phone told me the transfer will not get approved without proof of club membership...

My last 3 transfers have been approved without being a gun club member under the "target shooter" classification, not collector.

Well, I called the CFO on Friday. If common sense didn't dictate that I shouldn't voice the obscenities I wanted to...it could have been a messy call.

Even though I already own both restricted and non restricted firearms which I bought when living in Ontario, under NO circumstance could I have a new restricted firearm transferred into my name in Nova Scotia without being a member of a club. To answer 'yellowsv' - they call and confirm your name is on the current member list.

I proclaimed my intent and that I already owned restricted firearms, she replied 'but you're not a current member of any club in NS'. It's like she was an automated response.

I then asked about ATT's and sending firearms through the CanPost. She replied, 'thats a whole different story...'. In the end, they would approve an ATT to mail the firearm BUT wouldn't approve the transfer into my name...which completely negates approving the ATT anyways!

Not impressed.

So pretty much I own a beautiful SR1911 that's sitting in NB waiting. Just need to find the time away from work to finally join a club. :)

I have read in this forum and have heard from others that it is possible to be denied a restricted firearm tansfer if you are NOT a member of a gun club.... my question is this: has ANYONE actually been denied a transfer from the CFO after claiming they were buying the restricted firearm for target practice and DID NOT have a membership at a gun club??

Personally, the last 2 of my pistols were purchased for "target practice" while I was not a member at a gun club.

I am really interested to see if anyone has been denied a transfer of ownership while not a member of a club.

I was denied ,
I was the owner of a firearm that didnt reach my house until 3-4 weeks later .
I had to get collector status
