Anyway here is what I have/had, just sold the top one. Keeping the Smiddy on my pea shooter.
I have to agree. Before I moved to Calgary from South Africa, I had a bunch of Richard's stuff on my rifles. First thing I did when we arrived here, was to buy all new NEAR stuff for my new rifles again.
I JUST (5 minutes ago) ordered a set of NEAR 34mm Alpha Hunter mounts for my new Zeiss Diavari 6-24x72 scope for my 30-378 from Richard.
For those thinking a lightweight Talley is just the same at 10% of the cost - you could not be more wrong....
Firstly, try put a set of "lightweight" Talley mounts on a 50 BMG using a Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PMII.... The mounts will never hold up.
Secondly, when spending $3500 on a scope, you don't want "cheap" mounts making serious ring marks on your scopes.... I have used the NEAR Alpha Hunter mounts on 338 Lapua, 30-378 Wby and PGW 50 BMG and when the rings are removed from the scopes, there are ZERO marks on the scopes. And NO mis-alignment issues ever.... Never ever any need for lapping NEAR mounts either.
Simply put, they are works of art. I was the EAW (Ernst Apel) import agent for South Africa, and I always believed they made the world's best mounts - UNTIL I got my first pair of NEAR Alpha Hunter mounts... They are just that good.

What everyone else said. I have Near bases and his brake for the TRG 22. His TRG 22 bases fit like a glove. Also spent some time in Richards's shop and seen him work. Attention to detail and meticulous is an understatement. His stuff is used worldwide. FN doesn't use his bases on their SPR rifles for no reason. Customer svc is also outstanding.

Been some time, and I thought since hunting season is coming I would give this a little boost. I have not seen or talked to Richard since I bought my mounts. I hope everything is going well for him and his products. It is not easy for a guy who is small and local to compete with the large business machines. Richards product is amazing, and I hope others consider this world renowned local ring and mount guy. You won't be disappointed. He is the best, and is right here in Alberta.
I have near alpha mounts on everything from a 243 up to my 50bmg, you can't beat them. They are the best hands down. To even try to compare them to tally is silly. And for the guy asking about two rings in the front, there isn't, his front saddle is just wider and it takes two caps. The alpha mount is the most rock solid mount out there for any scope.

His product is world class, and is very little more than the off the self stuff. Considering that the mounts are crucial, and the weak link, and that the best is right here in Alberta, I think everyone should at least check out Near Manufacturing. I am not affiliated, and I paid his regular price, just in case anyone is wondering.
I had to add to this.... I have over a dozen rifles, and just as many scopes. Talley rings on a Weatherby, Millet on a Savage, ect.... But on my custom AICS Rem722 .308, a NEAR Alphamount. Its a precision rifle, where only the best will do..... ;-)
