Has the AR market in Canada totally collapsed or what?

People getting into firearms as a hobby for many different reasons and that is what makes the hobby interesting, but to say why buy an AR when a $200 SKS can do the same thing is a rather limited in argument.
People buy AR for tac rifle courses, 3 gun competitions and service rifle matches, the competitions and matches are the actual hobby to these people, the rifle is just the tool, so the rifle being restricted is not an issue. Than there are the hobbyist who are more fascinated with the mechanical side of things building AR is an obvious choice.
Majority of the same AR owners will also own NR rifles for the bush as well, just as there are people who own non-restricted firearm that don't go into the bush at all.

Not that it matters anymore, but I liked my Norinco way more than my Dlask. Now we run 858s. Without needing ATTs.
On the battle-proven front, I think a few armies have bought into the Norinco KoolAid. Yes, I know. Look how it turned out for them...

In my case, I can't be bothered to get into the restricted game. I have shot at a range exactly once in my life and while it was cool, (a CGNer took me) the time, money and ever present risk of confiscation, since these guns still have to be registered, is not worth it in the end for me. My priority since 2011 has been to buy up solid, non-restricted semis since the dismantling of the registry. Those guns can miraculously disappear if a total ban on semis ever comes down and reappear if ever needed for generations to come only slightly worse for wear.
Now of the 1.9 million licensed owners in Canada, how many of those licenses are for restricted firearms? 3%? 5%? I doubt it's much more than that. (I think it was rangebob who posted the stats on here during the dismantling of the LGR) My point is the market is pretty small. The gun in question is being sold on a site that has an unknown percentage of that intial 5% of restricted licensees. So while i doubt the AR market in canada has totally collapsed, the AR in question is being marketed in a very very small market. That's just my take on it, if it made any sense...

I don't think the market's collapsed at all, I think ARs are selling like crazy.

That said I think your price is quite reasonable, having looked at your ad.
I'm not a Norinco fan, but I really can't stand that whole "battle proven crap". There are plenty of very high quality firearms that aren't battle proven and would be more reliable then many, but haven't seen "battle" because of cost alone. I am all for buying quality guns, but there is a 99% chance we are not going to need a battle proven rifle for anything. Going to the range and shooting paper targets is FAR from being in the sandbox fighting for your life. Chances are (and hopefully) we will never need to go to battle or war with our rifles. You also sound like a mall ninja when you say it.

Good to know that I am helping destroy the firearms industry in Canada. Damn, and my Norc jus keeps going bang every time I pull the trigger. Everything internal is stock. No, it's not "battle proven" but neither am I. I'm just a range poser who competes.
To be fair I have hardly shot my Norc in the last year. I've been shooting my just as "crappy" DPMS. It works the same as the Norc: Sights, Breath, Squeeze, BANG, Repeat.
Correction, the barrel nut on the DPMS worked loose. Never happened on my Norc. I guess my DPMS is more crappy than my Norc then. Damn, oh well off to pay more match fees to get out and get these crappy rifles dirty and have a great time doing it.

The whole point of getting an AR is getting a gun you can customize in every way imaginable. Even if you found a gun that was customized exactly like you were planning to do, what's the fun in buying it and leaving it the way it is? (other than shooting it obviously) Personally, even though I'm not very good with tools, I'd rather buy the gun and parts and do everything myself.
This sums it up nicely....
