Hi Guys,

I have my regular PAL, but am pondering getting my restricted license. However, from horror stories I've heard, it sound like a pain in the rear.
Do you need a permit everytime you go somewhere with it? How tedious is the process to transport etc?

If I get pulled over for speeding, do the cops have a note on their file that says I have a restricted license....hence more hastles?

I really just want a MASSIVE hand canon I can go out to the farm and shoot tin cans with!!

Any info would be appreciated.

You gert issued an ATT that lets you go back and forth from the range. Have it with you if you take the gun to said range. That's it.

Not that bad, really - though if we were truely free, this BS would be behind us.

Does a bear #### in the woods? Of course it's worth it. In the west, an ATT can cover any ranges, anywhere at any time so you only need one!!

This of course you know is illegal, to shoot your restricted anywhere but at an approved range....of course I am sure many do so in remote areas.... 8)

Not going to happen. With few and rare exceptions, it's licenced ranges only for restricted firearms.

If you want a massive hand cannon to plink with at the farm get an 18" shotgun and put a pistol grip on it. It doesn't get more massive than that.

It's sad really but throughout my younger years, shooting handguns on your property was standard practice. I grew up in New Brunswick and almost everyone had an old hand ejector or Single Action Army to shoot cans with, along with rats and even coup de gras shots to deer heads.

Hell, once upon a time you could primary hunt with handguns in Canada. Then came the great plague that infected all law abiding people with the criminal virus. The gov't could not longer trust the law abiding to not kill each other in a blood soaked orgy of firearms crime so they were FORCED to take away all our rights. Totally understandable considering all the lives it saved and how all the already established criminals followed our good example of compliance...

Thanks for the advice guys! I like handguns and have fired a few (38, 9mm) but nothing larger.
I'd really just want to shoot cans at the farm, and being illegal...well...that sucks. I don't really have the inclanation to go to a range or be a member of a gun club as most of my focus is hunting related.
Maybe I'll just stick with my long guns. I bought an SKS for plinking, and have been having a little fun with that.
I must say, I do like SOME of the gun laws they have in the U.S. I do agree, certain things are a little "lax". (Ease and availability).
At any rate....I'll have to give this some more thought.....
I appreciate all your comments guys!! Thanks!

With rifle registration owning handguns isnt all that different from long arms. The only difference now is when your allowed to go shoot them. You fill in a paper and thats it, all free.

Now with rifle registration I would think more people would get into handguns seeing how everything is almost so alike.

Alright. Another question then...

I'm in (uuuggghh) Ottawa, Ontario....well...near Ottawa. So with regards to transport permits to go to the range, will I just have to get the one transport permit, or do I have to get one everytime I go to the range?

Anyone know?

How does it go with joining a club? Is there a waiting list, do you have to go through some club "approval" procedure?

Is it expensive?

The only ranges I know here in Ottawa is Canaught and Stittsville, and I believe Stittsville is only open to public on weekends, other than that it's contracted to the RCMP?

Forget those ranges. Connaught has ALOT of time restrictions and is expensive, so unless you NEED the extra distance, forget it. Stitts is a pro sop first and a shooting range second. Look into either Smiths Falls or EOHC if you intend to join somewhere.

Or the RA...it's great for people new to Handguns because they have pistols there for memebers to shoot. Handy while you wait for your paperwork to come through...

That's right! I forgot about the RA!

I supposed it'll take the same amount of time for me to receive the restricted? I wonder what's different? If I take my test and fill out the forms, it should be cut n' dry really....I already have a license and gone through all the paperwork, you'd think they could just send a new card with the restricted on it...

Buuut...then again....it is the Federal Gov't were talking about!!

The .44 is a nice calibre, I like it a lot. I've also shot the .500, now THAT is a hand cannon! Lots of recoil and muzzle blast, I have a picture of my buddy shooting it with flames everywhere. Very impressive :D

YAA......now you're talkin my language!! I'd love a .50 cal desert eagle....the thing just looks knawrly!! I'd probably have fun just looking at myself in the mirror holding the cannon!! (ohhh...wasn't that a clever euphamism?!)

I've never seen one, just pics but my neighbour says it's about the size of a small animal!

Here's another question for you HG gurus.... can you buy ammo for these things in normal sporting shops..(ie : Lebaron)? Or do you have to go somewhere that deals specifically with HG ammo? :?

Yes LeBarons sells handgun ammo...

about a Desert Eagle that is a fun 'toy' :) I've shot one in .44mag and .50AE. If you really want one I'd recommand the .44 version since the .50 ammo is VERY expensive and fairly rare. The recoil is very close. But I won’t ever buy one myself though - it cost a fortune!! I bought my Raging Bull .44 for a lot less BTW it’s pretty huge too; 55oz of steel 12in OAL 8)

Bring in the zombies :p

Hey...this is completely off topic...but does anyone know why my little graphic won't show up? Does it HAVE to be linked to a pic on the web OR can it be linked to a file on my PC?
:?

Just get it. I got my restricted in 6hrs and t hen of course the 8 week delay to actually get my licence in the mail.
