Have to be careful

I just picked up my first 308 and looking at the ammo it is really close to the 300 savage ammo.During hunting season I ussually have various calibers of ammo in my pack I'll have to watch closly when grabbing the 308 or 300 ammo.Would either chamber in the wrong gun?

yeah no kidding. was out hunting with a friend a while back and he had his .308, and he pulls out this handful of rounds from his pocket and there was a .243 mixed in. not real smart, tsk tsk

i think 300 would chamber in a 308 and fire, would anything bad happen i don't know. i don't think 308 would chamber in a 300

Although I would highly recommend against trying it, I strongly suggest that a 300 Savage would chamber in a 308 rifle and probably fire without any hazardous fireworks. The throat on the 300 Savage is too short to allow a 308 round to chamber, so pretty safe there. Regards, Eagleye.

Oh I'd never try it,I was just commenting on how closely the rounds look to each other.I own about ten different calibres but these are the only 2 that are so close in appearance.

I heard of a Fellow shooting 300 Win mag ammo in his 300 Weatherby because the wetherby ammo was too expensive I didn't see it happen but I did see the brass.

You should of seen the "new" shoulder on those cases

Eagleye, Were you at the rifleman's rodeo shoot when I was shooting 270 with scope and 30-06 iron sighted? Laid out my five rounds for the 30-06, got in good prone postion, and never touched a target! I couldn't see, but the guys said my bullets were hitting the ground about 50 yards down range!
I guess you have it figured out, fired five 270 rounds through the 30-06!!
Life's darkest moment, didn't think I would ever tell anyone.
Can't remember if you were one of the guys who gave me a bad time, or not!
