I seen this topic get covered recently with similar question but not directly hunting firearm specific.

Have you purchased a bolt action for hunting or target and it was a complete POS?

Purchased, waited.. took it to the range/hunt and BAM..... junk/quality control issue/felt like a toy/etc?

I have just done some buying and selling to revamp the stock for hunting in a new location. I hated to see some go but got some new additions I'm pretty happy about.

I've read 1000 reviews and purchased a few rifles over the last few years. Some I would not have considered had it not been for the ranting in these forums, so thanks for that. I've been pretty lucky so far...

Anyone get a lemon? A much sought after that was just not "it" after you got it?

Thanks for any comments, I'm trying to fill in that last void (that I can afford at this point), probably a 30.06

The only one i hated was a Remington 770 (yeah, i was dumb and broke enough to buy one :( ). The quality was such that i thought it was going to blow up in my hands and take off half my face in the process. Interestingly enough, when i sold it (to a gun shop) i got about double the price for an 80 year old beaten up Remington 141 that i sold at the same time. Says a lot about the quality of those 770's.

Just want to add, I picked up an Axis in 223 for a cheap varmint bush gun and am still impressed with that thing.

Awesome bang for the buck.

Axis in 30.06 though.... felt like it was going to explode. Had to go immediately, may have been a lemon?

One needs to enjoy what he is shooting, if not the groups will never attain any nice formashun.
Either I like them or their gawn in short order.

I searched for a 1980's Winchester M70 Carbine Short Action. Wanted one, found one NIB in 308. Between the failing to eject, and horrible accuracy. I was very disappointed.

I really wanted to love that gun.

I foolishly bought a Savage Edge at one point...... Felt like a dollar store screwdriver

I always wanted a ruger 77 and when I graduated trade school I bought myself one. I had tons of issues with it, It wouldn't fire most of the time and when it did it wasn't that accurate. I got it fixed and sold it. It really was a beauty in 7mm rm with a pepper lam stock and stainless action and barrel. Didn't turn me off of rugers though.

Savage 10BA. The rifle was ok, but that trigger was a total horror story!! What an absolute lawyer approved piece of garbage. I hated that trigger so much, I sold the damn rifle at a steep loss and never bought another centerfire Savage since. If my BTVS rimfire wasn't so excellent, I wouldn't own another Savage again. Now, your experiences may be totally different, but there will never been another Savage centerfire in my gun locker for as long as I live.

Anything savage makes these days feels like complete junk to me... I'm also not a fan of much mossberg makes these days. Or Remington... Held a new lever action 44 mag marlin. Bolt would not close all the way when cycled. was almost a 1/16" gap in the bolt from the receiver...

Always had good luck with CZ. I very highly recommend them. Some of them were a bit rough and needed a little tlc on the bolt polishing, but they never felt cheap...

Bought a Mossberg MVP sight unseen for my son... I was horrified with what a piece of crap it was... horrible gun... got rid of it and got him an M70... I don't regret the M70.

Many likely won't even believe me as they have such a following here, but most of my bad experiences were with Remingtons. These are the cheapest guns I'll buy, so couldn't tell you on the new plastic stuff I'm sure there's lots of fun there. A couple 700s of new vintage, and several 870 Express issues, I've used old Remingtons that worked swell. Their new stuff has become very hit and miss, and I avoid them.

The "Express" shotguns are a rough, sloppy joke when compared to older Wingmasters... as are the SPS line compared to an 80's BDL... wouldn't buy these newer basement level Rem's... but I had a Wingmaster 12 gauge and a BDL in .280 Rem... and that pair alone would cover whatever I could want to do in NA.

I bought a Wetherby Vanguard Sub-Moa in 22-250. Spec's were good, seemed like a rifle I'd really like. Nothing wrong with the rifle, just couldn't get into it.

I have a Really nice pair of BDL's. A 7mm and a 22-250. Grew up with them and used them for everything.

Then I tried hunting with a semi-auto. It's like getting a vehicle with A/C, can't go back to rolling down windows. Now, I not a fan of bolt actions!

The only reason I keep them is because they are so nice, and one day I might not be able to hunt with a semi-auto (Liberals)

My savage BMAG. I really like the 17WSM cartridge but the BMag rifle is such a pile of crap, the stock is crap, the bolt throw is very stiff. I had to modify the feed lips in the clip because a bullet wouldn't fit into the clip. I guess I should have wait to get one locally so I could have looked at it first, instead of getting it mail order
