Have you hated your bolt action?

I purchased a Savage Trophy Hunter in 223 and I thought I hated it.
It would group 3 MOA with most ammo including my reloads (55gr, 62gr and 64gr bullets)
Sure, every now and then it would give me a 0.3MOA 5 shot group but not consistently.
But lately I switched to 75gr match bullets and I'm getting 0.6MOA 7 times out of 10. The other 3 times is still under 1MOA.
And with a 1 in 9 twist it shouldn't even stabilize those bullets!
So I'm not hating it any more :D
 
Things have changed over the years. Some of 'em for the negative.
Most manufacturer's Quality Standards included.
I don't even peruse modern gun offerings any more ... mostly crap unless yer willing to crack the wallet open big time.
The last brand new gun I ever bought was a Rem Mohawk 600 .308, back in the seventies, that one broke off it's bolt handle just as soon as I got a wee bit frisky with the handlioads. .. Ahem.

Had this beautious mannlicher stocked Sako .308, waa-ay back when.
Tried and tried to no avail to get that cabine to print under 3 moa. Not happening no matter the load recipy.
Of course, I knew it all and all of it I knew back then .. Having read every magazine article that ever hit the newstand.

Traded Sako off for a close ratio dirt track gear cluster for the '72 DT2MX 'crosser. (and that upgrade did in fact net me a few good charges from flag to first corner)

The hellofit?, all that beautious Sako ever needed was a minor bedding tweak to the barrel band/channel area in order to shine .... and me dumped it not having the first clue of what bedding even was back then ...

It's been the older, made by previous gen skilled craftspeople, who operated manually controlled machinery, that has held interest and affection for a lifetime.

Got bud's with super-accurate Savage and Remington cookie-cutters, I mean some seriously accurate rifles here ... that can't even come close to the inherent panache of a 1/2 moa Mauser fer this all-steel gun guy though.

There are some modern big-bucks exceptions I suppose ... A Swissarms 5.56, or Steyr HS .50 .. could put a smile on a rotting Zombie. ;)
 
A Remington Sendero in 300 mag, bad finition, bad accuracy, light strike a real POS... Dealer was good and gave me a full refund ... One of the reason Remington for me is so low in the food chain... Your milage may vary... JP.

Have a Series 2 in 308 on the way from Wolverine. Im pretty pumped about it. Weatherby wasn't even on my radar until this year, talked to a few guys and read some threads on here. I would relish in boring accuracy..

I just sold my Model 10TR. I couldn't wait to get into that thing, and after a couple trips to the range.. couldn't do it. Bolt felt good. accurate rifle for sure but I would have to put $1000 into it to feel ok about it with a new stock.

I think it may be the last Savage for a while.

All with horrible defects out of the factory.

Savage = garbage.

There are some people who like them. I cannot fathom it.

I would like to be the first to intentionally use your word... here goes; "I love Ruger No.1's for their excellent finition, conversely, I detest Mossberg bolt action rifles as they have the worse finition that I have ever seen."

I had a Fabarm SAT-8 that refused to cycle anything but the heaviest loads. I sent it down the road pretty quickly.

Bolts? Never had a problem with one. Knock wood.

So I gotta ask. Why not just install a $150.00 aftermarket trigger rather than take a steep loss?
