Heard a Ruger rumour today

Was at the local gunshop a little while ago....the Owner was telling me that Ruger was involved in a lawsuit with a fella over the term "Winchester Short Mag"
Turns out this fella said he had origianlly coined the phrase and that Ruger had used it without his consent..anyway,they went to court and the guy had won.....
Ruger will then have to pay a royalty if they wish to continue using the "shortmag" term,but according the gunshop owner,he said Ruger had opted to drop the shortmag lineup from production........
Now..maybe they will go back and make 7x57 re appear:rockOn:

Wasn't the guy involved in the law suite Rick Jamision, the gun writer with Shooting Times, etc.? I used to enjoy some of his articles, but he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Yes...that's what I was told..ya just jogged my memory...as far as the story being 2 yrs old,I'm afraid I have no idea....
I did find it quite interesting though,especially since the gunshop owner said "all" Ruger short mags will be discontinued this year.....:confused:
 
It went something liek this:

Jamison sues Winchester over patent infringment.

Jamison wins, and is awarded royalties from Winchester (and anyone else who wants to produce "his" short mag rifles.

Ruger won't play ball with Jamison, so stops producing WSM chambered rifles.

Story is about 2 years old.:)
 
Rick Jamison got a patent on the Short Magnum Cartridge even though they have been in production in many forms for a loooong time... Winchester ripped him off for his intellectual property when they developed the WSMs.
He sued and won a settlement... and now is persona non grata in the the firearms world... but he has the money!
Nobody else including Ruger wants to give him a cent so the WSM's are not being chambered in many rifles other than Browning and Winchester.
Don't know about the European stuff.. they all seem to be offering the WSM's...?
 
:confused::confused: This explains why Ruger Does not list WSM's in their Catolog. The guy that sued probably doesn't have a career as a gun writer any more. Companies are not going to send him test rifles and invite him on free hunts. Also what Fire arms company would advertise in a magazine this guy had a article in. Talk about shooting your own foot. Reminds me of that idiot Zumbo.:puke::puke::puke:

So here's a question along the same lines .........

Does Remington recieve royalties everytime another gunmaker chambers a rifle in, for example, .223 Remington or 7mm Remington Magnum or other Rem calibers?

Same with the 270Winchester, or the barf barf 375Ruger (if it lasts long enough to get chambered by another gunmaker :D)?

If the parent company patents it, then possibly they would recieve royalties until the patent expires.

I have a feeling that it would have been hard to patent the 7RM or 270 Win since the4y are based on parent cases, and not a "completely new" design which is what Jamison convinced the patent office of.
 
The freak, Michael Jackson bought the Beatles intellectual property and it cost the left-wing idiot McCartney, a damn fortune to buy it back.

But royalties on firearms stuff? I don't know... :confused:
