Heated vests and/or jackets??? Which one??? Recommendations please!!!

but are we calling that cold lol ...

It's all relative.... for most of the planet -5 is considered extremely cold.... my point is I prefer dry and cold to wet and slightly warmer.... I do prefer west coast gorrila snot measured in cementemeters when it comes to skiing which is a bit counter the norm of looking for dry "blower" type powder.

The wet stuff is more fun and it's what I grew up in... but the dripping ...... melt-freeze is the flip side of being so close to the ocean at this latitude.

I remember skiing at the former Tod Mountain one year and it was around -35 for a few days.... definitely kept the speeds down and lot's of turns and coffee in the lodge.... but after a few days it warmed up 10 degrees to minus 25 and it was noticeably warmer.

Coldest it get's where I live is around -25 give or take, but that's only when we get an arctic outflow and usually lasts days or a week or so at the most.

I bought my mom and dad some Lentz heated socks last year and then bought some for myself, a client I was doing some work for had dealer pricing and sold them to me at cost. They are pretty nice but a bit pricey and they charge a lot for their battery packs. Everyone talks about going green these days but manufacturers love to make it so rather then swapping cells and using the same controller electronics, you have to throw everything in the garbage when they die and buy an expensive battery pack!

May or may not work for you but I use Milwaukee hoody, mostly for fishing. M12 batts. Got a few M12 Milky power tools too, used mainly for auto mechanics.

I got one of the vests, fits nicely over my base layer and tucks in easily under my puffer. I usually carry a couple packs of handwarmers in my pack as well to stick in my pants pockets if needed but even on low does a pretty good job coupled with Merino and Eco-ball insulation.

Another tale of caution, don't wear your heated jacket to the airport. I wore my heated Milwaukee hoodie on a recent trip, the security xray guys freaked out seeing all the wiring.

Mine arrived today, takes a little longer to get to locations further north.

Have it at work tonight as thermostat goes into reduced heat mode. So far impressed with build, had it on low when was out scraping crap off the truck. Real test will be next week during the deer hunt.

I usually wear a 2x everything and even with a summer weight loss, this is form fitting. Probably good for heat retention but I like my clothes a little bit big so would recommend going up a size if you do as well.

So sitting in the deer blind and have been using mine now for 5 days. Heater works well and battery life is good so far. Warmth on the neck is nice.

But its noisy. Every time I move the fabric creaks. And if I hadn't been wearing it for this long I would exchange it for next size up, I just prefer a looser fit in my clothing.

Same experience, but the fabric on mine doesn't creak with movement. Glad I picked one up!

Thanks guys, I went with this vest.

My reasoning was, 7.4v (larger heating pads), a heated hood and a 16000mAh battery.

ordering one of these for ice fishing and hunting seeing as how you are on year 3 and still speaking positively. Those zippo handwarmers are great eh?
I still have the real old metal type that take the charcoal sticks. The one I use was my grandfather's and coghlans still sells the charcoal sticks. That said, I think i want to order the zippo 9's for my wife as a stocking stuffer this christmas. She will love those for ice fishing. I want to get her a heated vest too so gonna see if this brand has vests made for women.

Look into the Ororo brand.

I bought a jacket a few years back and use it all winter. My daughter bought one last fall and enjoys it 3/4 of the year.

My first foray into the heated jacket was when milwakee came out with their heated jackets. Went a few years and then I melted the jacket while grinding. Had the wife remove the inside of the jacket with the heated elements and sew it into another jacket. That system is still running fine today, now about 8 years.

I used a Milwaukee heated vest a couple seasons back for a few days.
This was in early December on the Westcoast.
Layered up from light fleece, shirt 'heated vest' heavier fleece and an outer shell.
7.5hour day in the wind and elements and the batteries lasted like like 4 hours (medium setting)
I didnt have time to recharge through the day and after three or four days it was like I'll send it back.
I am sure there are improvements from the first Generation of the vests and even better options too.

I own a couple of heated vests and this is the one I like best. Just finished 7 days of deer hunting and wore it every day and it worked like a charm.

This one is loose enough to wear comfortably over other clothes and fits true to size (all the others fit really tight to the body).

This vest is quiet compared to another one I own that creaks each time I breath in and out. I like that you can control the heat to the front, back or both heating zones, which is unlike any other that I own. Having heat on the back of your neck is really nice.

Being able to turn the lighted control button off is a huge factor if you are wearing it in a hunting blind or tree stand. I like the positioning of the battery pack on the inside of the vest and not tying up a pocket with it.

Battery life so far has been good although it takes a long rime to recharge. I ran it at all heat levels on either one side or both, depending on how cold the day was. If both front and back are running it drains down pretty quick, depending on the heating level.

It is a great under coat vest while sitting in a deer blinds on a snowy day!

I spent too many years throwing chains binders and tarps in -30, doesn’t take much cooler weather to numb my hands. Found these with two lightly rubberized fingers, thumb and palms. Compartment on back for a hand warmer packet.
