Heckler & Koch MR223A3 question

So update in regards to the handguard issue i was having.
I got 2 handguard bolts from HKparts. I dont think these are the original German ones, but they seem beefier than the MI ones. They measure 5.97. I decided to try 10 foot lbs again and this time the new bolts held up.

So today i come to the range. After 60 rounds, the handguard has walked forward just like in my previous pictures.

The only thing I can think of now to try is that some MI handguards ship with a green loctite thats suppose to be applied to the barrel nut before installation. I was told that this is not needed for the HK. Anyways, i got some loctite 609. I plan to apply it to barrel nut then torque down the bolt to 10 foot lb and give it a try.

Wolverine supplies offered to help with sorting this out since MI said they dont deal with canadian customers. But having only this one handguard, i dont want to send it off for who knows how long.

If with loctite it still doesnt work, i might just try to ignore this issue until i get another handguard. I really want this to work as I actually like the MI more than stock or Geissele.

I just shot mine the other day with the 13" version of midwest handguard. 170 rounds shooting controlled pairs and triplets.

The handguard did not move - no loctite, no glue. I used a rachet to tighten - no crazy torquing.

howq does the handguard feel when attached with no bolt. does it wiggle a bit?

i think you are wasting your time removing the barrel nut and locktighting it back on. I cant see that helping anything

I meant removing handguard, applying loctite to barrel nut. Not barrel not removal. So basically loctite handguard to barrel nut.
And no, no wiggle. The handguard is tight, but not Geissele tight.

I dont understand why im having this problem though. My barrel nut is worn out and undersized?
My MI handguard is out of spec and over sized?
Or could there be some other problem?

It may be that the retaining pin hole through the MI handguard is ever so slightly out of alignment, even a few thousands of an inch low would be enough to cause it to slip under recoil.

Yea, possible. Greentip’s handguard is fine though, so mine may be a one off issue.

Loctite 609 applied. Will let it set and try it again in a few days. If it still does this, im probably not gonna take any additional action until i get another handguard. The gap is annoying but doesnt seem to affect anything.

While on this topic, any other good M lok handguards for this rifle?
If the MI doesnt work out, the only good alternative I saw out there is the Lancer carbon fibre handguard.

It doesn't affect the zero on your irons?

My 11 inch should be here shortly.

LOL right... im sure it does. My scope hasnt failed yet, so never even used the irons after zeroing. If the handguard does creep forward again maybe I should just zero the irons in the handguard forward position.

Ok, went out and shot it today. 210 rounds.
handguard bolt at 10 ft lb
loctite on barrel nut

and finally the handguard didnt walk forward!

join me in 4-5 weeks as I try to figure out if I can actually still remove this handguard to clean my gas system lol

honestly though, it would be annoying to reapply loctite to barrel nut every time i clean the gas system. I will probably now delay gas system cleaning for as long as possible

Sorry to thread hijack, but anyone here willing to let me try a magazine or two through their HKMRR223A3 in the GTA area?

As I'm about to pull the trigger on a pre-order, but would rather try it out first.

Willing to offer a box of ammo (reasonable ammunition don't request 338 lapua mag or lathi) or a 6-pack of beer as thanks.

Mine is very different from a stock one now, but you can try it if you want. Find me at Silverdale on Apr.28
bring some match ammo if you wanna test it for accuracy

I was asked about the dbal on my mr223 so here's a picture of it with it on. Finally got my mr308 it's own vertical grip too
