Held an HS Precision HTR today

Just looked at their site, shows a HTR in 308 for $4950 but doesn't list any of the above items. Am I missing something here or am I blind? In any event a new HTR, not including any accessories etc is around 3 grand.

I called John at Reliable and he said the rifle should read HTR 100 Rapid deployment kit. It's not listed on the HS site.

He checked the invoice for the rifle and the price with all the gizmos is indeed $4950. Reliable has always had pretty fair prices, and exceptional service. I expect that there are even more accessories that come with this gun that I listed. Call for yourself, they have a 1800 number.

Just saw the HTR at P-D and that was the rifle with the deployment kit as Mutt said was $4600 plus. If it comes with the deployment kit well you are paying for alot more that just the rifle itself, rod, bore guide, torque wrench, rings, base, 4 mags log book, case etc. When I bought mine, I just bought the rifle w/o the deployment kit and was like I said $2900 and change. Mystery solved.

FOR that price, you might as well go for Semi auto Ar10 package, is every thing you wanted and more...

I think that the days of the $2600 HS rifles has come and gone. FS

I agree, but the price for a base rifle is not much more these days in the grand scheme of things. If buying the rifle with the deployment kit you obviously will pay more, so to say a H-S HTR is 5 g's as was stated earlier in this thread is not accurate. The rifle itself is around the $3000.00. I think this was somewhat confusing as if you understood what you were reading and believed what you read, you would be lead to believe that to buy the rifle would cost you about $5000.00. Its late and I just got home from work, why am I rambling about this.

WSS Edmonton has a .308 HS STR w/M24 stock for about 3100$ & other HS's in the sporter configuration.

The STR has a PST71 stock which is smaller than the full size stock on the M-24. The M-24 has the adjustable wheel and locking nut on the butt but is not ajustable for height like the PST71 on the STR.

No matter how you look at it, it is a Production/Factory Rifle................For the money they want for that H-S, I would build a custom rig with MY choice of parts, and built how I want it............just MHO..........;)

I agree with you on that one!!!

Only thing is, for a guy that does not know the first thing about custom barrels, stocks and not to mention the wait time, that H-S looks pretty good sitting on the shelf at that price.

Still a guy should at least talk to a gun smith before dumping that kind of money. Alot of advantages to building your own (from a smith), and probably cheeper.

I think you guy are right, Dave42 & SKullboy because you guy sure had some experience already in what to do and how to get about, I did that last year and choose the 300WM, still love the gun, but when I see the HS in 300Wm, it does look very nice, I am sure it way nicer than mine, it like one you get it , haft of the challenge is gone, and for those that do got the cash, well it just money, but if you willing to wait and have some patient to slowly build you rifles, you will get what you wanted in about 60% the prices of what HS is charging for there rifles, and there prices seem to keep going up, every time I see One...

Skullboy,
I agree with you for the most part but the H-S is a production/factory rifle, so is a TRG and an Accuracy International AW. All are quality rifles and can outshoot I would say the majority of the shooters although our ego's would say otherwise. They are not the average factory rifles and H-S precision makes outstanding match grade stainless cut rifle barrels which in my opinion is a critical component. I have a custom Remington 308 with a McMillan A-5 stock and a Mike Rock 22" fluted M-24 contour and a H-S Precision Pro Series 2000 HTR. Both rifles outshoot me by a long shot. If the shooter is not up to the task you might as well get a Remington 700P, shoot the #### out of it. I have also seen guys with stock Remington P's outshoot guys with custom guns that cost 3 times more. A custom gun tuned up to the nuts does not guarantee one hole or 1/4 minute groups just because it is a "custom" gun. If the nut behind the bolt does not do his part. I have shot with guys using top of the line custom guns and they were dissapointed because they were automatically expecting 1/4 minute groups because they were shooting a $4000 rifle.
