Greetings all,

Although I am not a new member, this is my first post under my brand spanking new business account.

My name is Solomon Friedman. I am a criminal defence lawyer based out of Ottawa, ON, serving the entire Eastern Ontario area (and beyond, occasionally).

Aside from my comprehensive criminal law practice, I do quite a bit of firearms-specific legal work. From "public safety" (section 117.04) warrants and careless storage, use/discharge charges to customs and importation issues, I try to cover the full gamut of gun law issues, for businesses and individuals.

I hope to post about and comment on legal issues of concern to gun owners. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me an email or PM.

Hello and welcome. It will be very interesting to read your comments, and I appreciate your being willing to provide them. I hope you enjoy the site.

Do you represent gang bangers and thugs or only people attempting to be law abiding?

He said he was a lawyer, not a judge.

There is a difference between a guy arrested for unsafe storage when everything is locked up properly and a guy selling crack and carrying firearms. Its a fare question directed to the OP.

Welcome aboard in your new capacity.

I'm thinking you may have opened a can of worms for yourself offering to give opinion on legal issues here, then again, you may be able to knock some of these threads in half too :)

I perused your website quickly and your credentials appear impressive. Looking forward to your comments.

Thanks for offering your opinions here.

I have a legal question that I suspect I know the annswer to but I'll wait and see what comes up once people start asking you for free advice :):)

Where do you shoot in Ottawa?

REALLY ..........

isn't that alot like asking someone what are your religious views , or what is the colour of your skin ?

the only thing that should be relevant here is ;

is he a good lawyer ......

when you need a lawyer either your up sh*t creek , or you are quickly heading in that direction .

and speaking for myself , I WANT the guy who represented the drug dealer with a open and shut case against him ..... but figured out a way to get him off on a unknown technicality or loophole .

A VERY tasteless question to ask IMO (by sam fisher) during a welcome post by someone offering help and guidance. Knowing some of the posts on this forum though it should be expected I guess, and not totally out of line...
In any case, welcome and thanks for putting yourself out there for us.
All the best

Welcome.

Though I hope to never need your services, it's good to know that there can be access to knowledgable legal representation if the need arises.

I agree that it is a fair question. The answer is that I act in the tradition of the British barrister - I will represent anyone charged with any criminal offence and defend them to the best of my ability, regardless of my personal beliefs or opinions regarding their character, background or ideology.

I am guided in this regard by the Commentary to Rule 4.01 (Advocacy) of the Law Society of Upper Canada's Rules of Professional Conduct:
The lawyer has a duty to the client to raise fearlessly every issue, advance every argument, and ask every question, however distasteful, which the lawyer thinks will help the client's case and to endeavour to obtain for the client the benefit of every remedy and defence authorized by law.

Accordingly, although I am particularly passionate about defending otherwise law-abiding firearms owners caught up in the criminal justice system, I certainly do not restrict my practice to that area.

Welcome to the site my friend. How do you feel about taking on the CFO (s) from various locals and forcing them to prove they actually have the powers they seem to think they have? i.e, inspecting and closing down ranges!
