I just purchased a Browning x bolt in 300wsm.Can anyone start me off with some good accurate loads using Hornady 150gr and 165gr bullets. Powder? and also fps would be helpful as well.Thank you.

My favorite powder for my 300wsm and 150-165gn was IMR4350, I cant find data anywhere on powder charge or primers...as per reloading manuals this would also be the powder that gives you the more fps

IMR 4350 (180gr) Varget (155 gr)

I have three 300 WSMs. I run two with IMR 4350 and 180 gr Barnes TTX. They have barrels that are 20" and 26". I use 66.0 gr with a winchester magnum primer and it performs flawlessly. The 20" gets 2890 fps and the 26" gets 3080 fps. The 20" is built on a short action, so I had to seat the bullets very deep to make them run out of the magazine, this created a compressed load. The 26" is on a long action, so the seating point has the base of the boat tail at the junction of the neck and shoulder in the case. My third is based on a short action and a 15 twist barrel. I run two bullets out of this, 125 gr Nosler BT and a 155 gr Sierra Palma. The 125 gets 66 gr of Varget for a speed of 3700 fps and the 155 gets 61 gr for a speed of 3240 fps. This is what I am competing with this year for a f-open rifle. It was originally built for gophers but has become useful on paper. I truly enjoy this case and think that there are many uses for it, have fun. Don.

Groups ?

Load development occurred at 300 yds. It went OK. Hopefully Ian will post the pictures because I am to computer stupid to do for myself. I have shot it @ Homestead and it worked just fine. I am going to use it @ Winnipeg. I am losing intrest in my 284 and am thinking of setting the barrel aside before I burn it out screwing around. I plan on keeping a 6 BR for 300m ISSF, a 300 WSM with a 15 twist barrel firing the 155.5 bergers, and a 300 RUM on a 11.25 ish twist firing the 208 AMAX for 700-1000m. This is the plan so far. Just need to make the dollars to complete the builds...

donp, you must have shoulders of steel :)

Saying RUM and F class in the same sentence makes me shudder in pain.

I am sure that 300WSM shoots great. It is just a novel approach to the same problem and one of a few go fast set ups I have heard of in F Open.

Look forward to seeing it at the Farky if you can make the shoot.

Very interesting indeed.

Here is Donny's load development with the 300 WSM and 2155 SMK's at 300 YARDS These are sub quarter minute groups.

This thing ROCKS. He is using a 30" barrel with a 1:15" twist. Trued Remington 700 Action, and the loads are on the photo. I can attest to its amazing long range accuracy, and as you can see, the velocities are well over 3200 fps and not a single sign of pressure.

FYI, The Overbore index of the 300 WSM is only 1060.

This means its accurate life is better than a 22-250, and on par with a 6.5X55 and a 6XC, and ever so slightly less than a 260.
