I am looking to get some advice on purchasing a new rifle stock for my Remington 700 BDL LA. I am looking at upgrading my current rifle stock to a bell and carlson with a full aluminum bedding block, but after doing some research I've found that there are different styles for barrel fitment. I am torn between getting a stock that has the barrel either free floating or pressure point. I am leaning towards the free floating as I believe it will aid in improved accuracy, but I have read online that free floating a barrel doesn't always lead to better accuracy. Does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of two types of stocks?

Any input will be appreciated thanks!!

Free floating does not necessarily improve accuracy, but it ensures the barrel is free to vibrate unhindered by contact with the stock, which is important for consistent harmonics. Consistent = repeatability = accuracy(ish). Go free floated. Another important thing to consider is bedding the action to the stock to ensure perfect fitment and a stress-free system. Some smiths will also bed the first inch or so of the barrel, I have seen debates on the merit of this, but a "pressure point" forward of the action and shank is no bueno.

On a couple rifles I have added a pressure point in the fore-end with good results on a couple rifles that were finicky. But I'd buy free floated first and only add a pressure point if I was having other issues.
