Help me choose 7mm RM rifle

I have a T/C pro hunter in 7mm. It has a 28" fluted barrel yet has an OAL the same as a rifle with a 22" barrel. Light weight, light recoil and accurate. Lots of velocity and quite quiet for a magnum caliber.

I'm a big fan of T/C Prohunter can't see how any one can go wrong with a encore

7 rm is a pussycat..... it's a faster 7-08...... which people tell me is a "girls rifle"....

Shoot it as is first then decide..... just because some marketing company decides to add the word "magnum" to a cartridge designation doesn't make it so in the recoil department......

Hey- whats this crap !
Send em down under for a swift kick up the ass ... the seven is no girls gun.... its a mans gun with a girls name :D :D :D: and knocks emm all out

BTW Remington 700 mountain rifle

so if I don't need muzzle break for 7mm rem mag... what if I was to get weatherby 300 rifle wizz factory muzzle break? how would the kick be? never shot anything bigger than 270win, so am very cautious and also see lots of 300 Win Mag & 300 Whby Mags deals... maybe they are not that much fun?

Then find a way to shoot one before you spend the money.

I have used a .300 Win for many years as my "bigger than deer" rifle and have learned to shoot it well without a brake (and it's a "brake" as in "stopping or slowing", not a "break" as in "broken"). I think that level of recoil is not "much fun" off the bench, but it is certainly manageable. The 7mm Rem produces less recoil than the .300's of any stripe. Muzzle brakes create sound levels that are absolutley damaging to hearing from just one unprotected shot, especially for anyone to the side of the shooter. Get the 7mm. Learn to shoot it well without a brake. Thousands of shooters have done it, so there is no reason to expect you can't, and you will never regret NOT having a brake on it once you do so.

It sure does have more recoil than a 7-08. You might need to actually shoot both to figure that out though.

Typical "chuck" response.... I have shot both, obviously it has more recoil than a 7-08, but not so much more that it requires a brake IMOP, OP's mileage may vary, but I would suggest he try one without a brake first.....

Being he is relatively new to hunting and shooting and the fact he has a 270 already he should be trying as menny rifles as he can befor putting out any cash on a new rifle
Encouraging Him to run out and buy a new rifle is silly and robbing him of a lot of fun and experience
Smitas5 Just take your time and shoot as many as you can and get the right rifle for you

Truly isn't a lot of performance difference in factory ammo between the 270 and 7mm anyway. 7mm is notoriously underloaded and needs handloads to really get proper velocity.

Seen one Schultz $ Larson in 7mm mag at the Kamloops gun show.
Poor gal was a bit ruff furr the $1000 price tag.

Now I awffer yew............Heeeeeerzs Johnny........................

The only one I know of with a 26" barrel is the x-bolt. A composite stalker might go under a $1000.
I've had a tikka,rem,and xbolt SS stalker,all 7mm.
I regret selling the Xbolt, way nicer and more accurate than the other two.
They're selling for $1200 +.
But I've seen em on the EE for under a $1000.

Didn't have a brake on em, but one would be cool.

Regarding the muzzle brake: about ten years ago I started seeing a stock insert recoil reducer that Mauser calls kickstop. They claim it reduces recoil 20%. Very expensive rifles though.

A .300 Mag with a brake is a pussy cat to shoot. It'll probably be less than your .270 is now, but that is going to vary with which brake, weight of either rifle and so on. My RUM wasn't much difference than a .243. The bad news is a muzzle brake works by turning recoil into noise. Not that big a deal on a range toy, but one shot taken without the muffs just might leave you wondering if you've been shot. That's not an exaggeration.

Yep, I let one go today,6.5x47 , heathen muzzle brake, forgot my muffs.
Rung my bell pretty good:)

Forget the muzzle brake, not needed for a 7rm.
Rem Long Range is under $1000...$750 at Coastal Outdoors, decent stock already, 1000's of accessories, 1/9.25 twist.

That's a good deal!

$830 to my door....added to cart but I dunno, can't pull the trigger lol.
I have a relative that is into long range, he uses a 338lapua, his buddy shoots a .50, and they found a spot fairly close to here that lets them shoot out to 1700m. He keeps bugging me to get some "gear" but it's just not my thing. 800-1000 is fun and I can do that with anything basically. I have zero interest in getting into the 338 or 50 game, just too expensive. I ran a bunch of 7mm VLD's through ballistic programs and they look pretty good...just more time and money to sink into shooting I guess lol.

If you want a 7mm with a muzzle break, Go for it,

I have a remington magnum 7mm, and yes it have a muzzle break on it, why ? Not because I could not manage the recoil (the 7mm recoil is nothing compare to a Mosin with a metal but plate..), but because in hunting situation with a muzzle break it is faster to inquire the sights/scope after the shot, by experience, that's a fact.

I like that 7mm, very accurate.

so if it's what you want, that's it !! Don't look further and forget about other comments that will try to sell you anything else that you don't want.
